[personal profile] clare_dragonfly has written another spectacular story in the Ursulan Cycle.  "Morwenna" tells of the conception and birth of Morwenna, daughter of Morgan Tud and Ursula.  In addition to being a great addition to the storyline, it's a very sweet and thoughtful rendition of unplanned teen pregnancy and how to deal with that responsibly.  Morgan makes an adorable  father.

Robin Williams has passed away

*moment of silence*

And only a moment, because this is not a man to be mourned in solemn grace, but one to be sent off with as raucous a wake as may be arranged.  The Pale Horse has evidently painted himself up like a bunting and I am not even going to ask whose idea that  was.  So tell a joke, read a poem, share a memory.

"Nanoo, nanoo!"  Yeah, that was some of my early xenolinguistics.  It was alien, it was funny, I loved it.  And I felt like Mork a lot.

EDIT: This death has shaken up a lot of people, because a lot of fans felt very close to Robin Williams.  There are resources for coping when a friend commits suicide, or helping a friend who has just lost someone to suicide.  Know the warning signs of suicide and depression.

The August 5, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl went well.  Use the "poem" tag to see what's already been posted.

Today we went to the Illinois State Fair.  Fun, tiring, that's why I'm running late.  But the Romanian honey donuts?  Soooooo worth the trip.  Like a cross between a funnel cake and baklava, fluffy and light as clouds, doused in honey and powdered sugar.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"Uncounted Colors of the Stars" belongs to the series An Army of One, and is now complete.  Find out how Astin fits into the Lacuna.  "The Impractical Cat" belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics.  Damask encounter an unusual cat around campus.  "A Cat May Look at a Queen" belongs to The Steamsmith series.  Maryam and Farasat go to an alchemy ball at the palace.

Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Unicorns on Parade" "Spruce Deer" "Wandering the Heights" (poetry).  Back to me for edits: "Cutting Cords and Clasping Hands (Parts 1-4)," "Winterheart" (parts 2-3), "Stinging Like Nettles"  "Off the Clock" (poetry).  Currently in front of the canon board:  "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction). Drafted: "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" (poetry), "Southern Breads" "Tangleweed Article" (articles), Jularei (character sheet).  In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," "Finding the Holes" (fiction), "The Smallest Invaders"  (poetry).  Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).

Weather has been warm with occasional rain.  Just a minute after we got back in the car today, it started to rain.  Currently blooming: shasta daisies, yellow coneflowers, echinacea, marigolds, portulaca, petunias, zinnias, sweet alyssum, torenia, motherwort, naked lady lilies, morning glories.  Green fruit: pears, apples.  Ripe fruit: blackberries.

Well, the general fund poll was tied, but more money came in, so I decided that the logical thing to do was post both the shorter poems and put the rest into epic poetry.

This poem came out of the August 5, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] dialecticdreamer and [personal profile] chanter_greenie. It also fills the "Relative Values: Families" square in my 7-30-14 card for the [community profile] genprompt_bingo fest. This poem was selected in an audience poll to be sponsored from the general fund. It belongs to the Danso & Family thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

WARNING: This poem contains some very difficult family dynamics and emotional!whump. Readers who are sensitive about relationship distress should consider their tastes and headspace before deciding whether to read onward.
