Schrodinger's Heroes: Menu Post
May. 16th, 2011 12:44 pmThis is all about creating a fandom for a television show that doesn't actually exist. The idea was launched by
melannen as a frame for "101 Asexy Sex Scenes" so there is attention to the sexual orientation of the characters with positive representation of asexuality and diversity. After some discussion with various folks, I created a description and some other materials for the apocryphal television show Schrodinger's Heroes and its imaginary fandom. It wound up with lots of gender and racial diversity, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. The show follows the adventures of several scientists and their friends as they attempt to manage dimension-spanning technology, fight evil, and not blow up anyone's personal life.
This post provides links to all the material that I've written and posted from the show and its fandom. Schrodinger's Heroes is an open-source project; everyone is welcome to play with it. If you do, please let me know what you create; I try to include links to things by other people too. Feedback is encouraged.
Do you enjoy this project? It's crowdfunded. There is a permanent tip jar in my LiveJournal profile if you'd like to encourage me to write more of this.

(no subject)
Date: 2013-04-11 05:57 am (UTC)Just FYI, I went to wrangle the tags, too, since they overlapped with Avengers and were unwrangled. There are now canonical tags in the format "Name (Schrodinger's Heroes)" because someone used that format and it looked workable. (It also follows our guidelines for single-name characters, which get shared a lot between fandoms.)
Anyway, if you want, you're welcome to come have a look and let me know if there are any characters who didn't show up in the fandom but were used on the archive. (They may have been common single names and gone automatically to another spot, but I can make versions with the fandom name in them as above.) I can't wrangle the Sherlock crossover relationships, but now that there are character tags to work with, the Sherlock team can do that.
You're welcome!
Date: 2013-04-11 09:36 pm (UTC)Yay, that's good to hear!
>> (And now I want to read ALL the series, because omg how so awesome?) <<
Schrodinger's Heroes is the kind of TV I'd like to watch, that doesn't exist, so I made some up. I can't make TV shows but I can write. I'm intrigued that what started out as an imaginary fandom has become very real, with more people writing for it than just me. There's actually another person doing a series --
>>Just FYI, I went to wrangle the tags, too, since they overlapped with Avengers and were unwrangled.<<
Thank you SO much! I really appreciate this.
>> There are now canonical tags in the format "Name (Schrodinger's Heroes)" because someone used that format and it looked workable. (It also follows our guidelines for single-name characters, which get shared a lot between fandoms.)<<
Yeah, when I first started, I just put in the single names. Then I spotted the parenthetical form on another fandom, and tried using that. Sometimes it saved, sometimes the system ate the qualifiers. But eventually it stuck. I have gone back and edited my Schrodinger's Heroes entries to use the new canonical tags.
I like crossing Avengerverse with Schrodinger's Heroes. They mesh nicely.
>>Anyway, if you want, you're welcome to come have a look and let me know if there are any characters who didn't show up in the fandom but were used on the archive.<<
I checked, and it looks like you caught them all.
>>I can't wrangle the Sherlock crossover relationships, but now that there are character tags to work with, the Sherlock team can do that.<<
That's okay. Hopefully they'll get to it.
There are a lot of Schrodinger's Heroes crossovers, because I designed it to be crossover-friendly and because it's an open-source fandom so anyone can play with it.
Thanks again for helping out.
Question
Date: 2013-04-12 05:52 am (UTC)Re: Question
Date: 2013-04-20 04:31 am (UTC)If the two characters are different (including different universe versions of the same character), we could canonize them separately as "Female Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)" and "Male Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)". If they're the same person in a different body, we'd just stick with one tag. Does that make sense?
Re: Question
Date: 2013-04-20 04:47 am (UTC)That's okay.
>>If the two characters are different (including different universe versions of the same character), we could canonize them separately as "Female Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)" and "Male Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)"<<
They are different universe versions of the same person. (Bodyswitching also happens, but they get turned into cats more often than swapping sexes.) Female!Morgan is the original; in the apocryphal backstory for the series, the actress who played her was killed in a car crash. But there had been a genderswitch episode with a male actor playing Morgan. So the story went, Alex searched the manifold for a Morgan willing to join them, and male!Morgan took the offer.
If you look in "Safe Keeping" there's a place where male!Morgan mentions that shift. "Settling" has female!Morgan.
Some things I've written about Morgan, the sex doesn't actually show, so I'd leave the original tag for those. But if you make the sex-differentiated tags, let me know and I'll update the entries that do specify.
Thanks again for your help!
Re: Question
Date: 2013-04-20 05:35 am (UTC)Re: Question
Date: 2013-04-20 06:00 am (UTC)I have updated the relevant entries accordingly.
>> So if you decide to separate these, go ahead. If it's not important to you, then it's fine to leave them as-is. <<
Depends on the story whether it's deeply important or not. Two of them have male!Morgan specifically talking about crossing over, so that's essential.
