ysabetwordsmith: (Schrodinger's Heroes)
[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith
This is all about creating a fandom for a television show that doesn't actually exist. The idea was launched by [personal profile] melannen as a frame for "101 Asexy Sex Scenes" so there is attention to the sexual orientation of the characters with positive representation of asexuality and diversity. After some discussion with various folks, I created a description and some other materials for the apocryphal television show Schrodinger's Heroes  and its imaginary fandom.  It wound up with lots of gender and racial diversity, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. The show follows the adventures of several scientists and their friends as they attempt to manage dimension-spanning technology, fight evil, and not blow up anyone's personal life.

This post provides links to all the material that I've written and posted from the show and its fandom.  Schrodinger's Heroes  is an open-source project; everyone is welcome to play with it.  If you do, please let me know what you create; I try to include links to things by other people too.  Feedback is encouraged.

Do you enjoy this project?
It's crowdfunded.  There is a permanent tip jar in my LiveJournal profile if you'd like to encourage me to write more of this.

Thanks for posting your stories for this verse on AO3! That's how I was able to find them. (And now I want to read ALL the series, because omg how so awesome?)

Just FYI, I went to wrangle the tags, too, since they overlapped with Avengers and were unwrangled. There are now canonical tags in the format "Name (Schrodinger's Heroes)" because someone used that format and it looked workable. (It also follows our guidelines for single-name characters, which get shared a lot between fandoms.)

Anyway, if you want, you're welcome to come have a look and let me know if there are any characters who didn't show up in the fandom but were used on the archive. (They may have been common single names and gone automatically to another spot, but I can make versions with the fandom name in them as above.) I can't wrangle the Sherlock crossover relationships, but now that there are character tags to work with, the Sherlock team can do that.

Hi, sorry! Comments in my inbox were buried as we opened recruitment, and I'm just catching up.

If the two characters are different (including different universe versions of the same character), we could canonize them separately as "Female Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)" and "Male Morgan (Schrodinger's Heroes)". If they're the same person in a different body, we'd just stick with one tag. Does that make sense?

Okay, sounds like they could be separate if you want them to. We don't canonize in advance unless we foresee problems - we let users choose whether to add new character tags or not. So if you decide to separate these, go ahead. If it's not important to you, then it's fine to leave them as-is.

Would you consider encouraging people to create 'Schrodinger's Heroes' works for [community profile] pod_together? Signups close at the end of today, and it just seems like such a neat potential opportunity to increase this 'verse's visibility. :o)

(My selfish motivation here is 'ooooooooo....', a fandom that *already* has a lot of people writing poetry for it, potential inspiration for one or more poetry projects for Pod Together 2013. Don't suppose you'd consider doing one yourself? I know a large part of what I'm getting out of doing the challenge is the chance to work closely with a really, really good audio performer and learn from her, learn more via her about my poetry and my work style. It's already proving a lot of fun.)

Re: that last, you're welcome to pick an open slot week on the community calendar any time and sign up to reserve that particular week. Manda and I are happy to help brainstorm/organize if you'd like some assistance structuring it.
