As part of the [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw project (running April 25-May 15), I'm posting some content just to Dreamwidth. This is a good opportunity to seek new readers for your blog and new blogs to read, and to recommend stuff you enjoy on other people's blogs to help them make new connections too. Previously we discussed "Skin Hunger," "Touch Aversion," "Primates Need Touch," "Self-Soothing and Self-Control," and "Compassion and Gentleness."  Skip ahead to "Building Trust," "Healthy Vulnerability," "Coping with Emotional Drop."

Creating Safe Space

A safe space allows for growth and exploration with a minimum of risk. It benefits from comfortable features and a boundary to keep out unwelcome intrusions. If used by more than one person, the people inside treat each other gently. These parameters span a wide range of circumstances both offline and online. I had a hard time finding generic guidelines, but I did find some for yoga work, social activism, and emotional healing.

"Squiggles: Excerpts from Nleimen's Journal"

I am so excited! The school offers an introductory art class for students in my year. This is not like the art sessions we had back in First Form. It is a whole separate class with its own room, which Teacher Bimani calls a "studio." One entire wall of the classroom is glass, to let in as much light as possible. Teacher Bimani is teaching us a lot of new words; she says the student stations are "easels" instead of desks. Plus there are some big flat tables to share, for drafting.

We get to explore all different kinds of art. Some of the stuff includes sketching, painting, sculpting, and textile arts. Textile means art that uses fiber or cloth -- macramé, quilts, embroidery, that kind of thing. Teacher Bimani promised to take us on field trips to the art museum and a couple of galleries. I have seen the museum before (it's mostly paintings of flowers and horses) but maybe it will be more fun to talk about the pictures with someone who really knows art. She even made the textbook sound interesting.

Our science class this year has two lab days each tenday, one at the beginning and one at the end. So now the teacher can do experiments that change over time. The older students talk about an experiment with a white flower where the teacher waters it with dye and you can see the color creep into the petals. That sounds amazing.

Come to Torn World for Sea Monster Month!  I should have some new material going up this month, featuring the hostile aquatic megafauna.  I helped design an entire ecosystem of sea monsters.  It's pretty cool.

This poem came out of the April 2013 Muse Fusion.  It was inspired by a prompt from [livejournal.com profile] vaerys and continuing discussion about touch aversion.  It also fills the #11 Sheer slot in the Rainbowfic Sunlight list.  It has been sponsored by Stephen Laird.

This poem belongs to the Torn World project.  It is a sequel to "Stinging Like Nettles."  I'll be submitting it to the Canon Board, but it hasn't been approved yet.
