Feathering the Nest
Sep. 27th, 2021 02:39 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
A special note for this event: I’m offering a different story as a bonus. If we reach $150 in tips, I’ll post a 7,500 word story (roughly thirty pages) showing Simon’s reactions to the incident in Omaha. Title suggestions are welcome! Also, if anyone else wants to request stories related to the same series of events, ideally, I can write individual stories from narrow viewpoints which occur simultaneously, but a need to delay posting will also add another page of story in recompense. Private reading copies will go out as they are finished, just like normal.
Monday Update 9-27-21
Sep. 27th, 2021 03:22 pmThese are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:

Last week's half-price sale in Polychrome Heroics went fantasically well. It broke the $1,000 threshold so you get an extra poem. \o/ I have well over a dozen poems to post, so watch for those to appear later.
Poetry in Microfunding:
There are two open epics at present.
"Rainshadow Road" belongs the Daughters of the Apocalypse series. It discusses herbalism.
"A Celebration and a Consolation" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Keira comforts her mother after the breakup.
The weather has been mild here. We got some rain. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of house finches, several mourning doves, a lady cardinal, and a squirrel. Currently blooming: morning glories, nasturtium, cup plant, Queen Anne's lace, petunia, zinnias, marigolds, spiderwort, cypress vine, sedum, some yellow thing amidst the big bluestem, wild sunflowers, sunchokes.

Birdfeeding
Sep. 27th, 2021 04:22 pmToday is sunny, blustery, and warm.
I fed the birds. I've seen house finches and doves today. I saw the crows cawing around the yard, but didn't see what they were chasing.
I pulled more weeds around the woodpile.
EDIT 9/27/21 -- I finished pulling weeds around the woodpile. \o/
EDIT 9/27/21 -- I took pictures of hazelnuts and more butterflies. I trimmed comfrey under the redbud tree in the savanna.

These notes compare the Omaha incident from "In Untried Emergencies" and "The Native Metal of a Man" against previous examples.

Bear Tunnels
Sep. 27th, 2021 08:07 pmIn looking for a free perk, I grabbed a poem from a series outside the current half-price sale. Unfortunately I neglected to check the status of the Bear Tunnels. It turns out that only the first poem got sponsored and posted. The promised freebie, "In Any Great Undertaking," is the last of 8. *headdesk*
Do you folks want me to post the originally promised poem, or swap in Poem 2 "Hickory Lives" (which is longer) as the freebie?

Catabolic Capitalism
Sep. 27th, 2021 09:04 pmToday I stumbled across a phrase that describes the destructive form of capitalism, where it consumes itself: catabolic capitalism. Instead of creating value, this feeds on existing value to extend a system that is no longer really sustainable. When you see businesses that don't actually make anything, or that make shoddy things, and that's the norm rather than a fluke ... then worry. It's a very useful term.
