I've seen a lot of vocabulary abuse recently.

Remigration is the voluntary return to country of origin. If it's not voluntary, it's not remigration. This term covers things like freed slaves moving from America to Africa, or Syrian refugees going back to Syria now that some of them deem it safe. We need this term for such purposes, which right now means defending it from people who use it wrongly.

Refoulement is the forcible movement of refugees from the place they fled to back to the dangerous place they fled from. This is what the American government has done many times, such as sending boats full of Jewish refugees back to Nazi-infested Europe during World War II or the current transfer of refugees back to their country of origin. Call it what it is and cite the historic comparisons, where we've got evidence of people dying because of it.

Friday word: Ladramhaiola
Ladramhaiola (Irish Gaelic): a day that was frittered away, despite one's planning to get a lot done.

We call this "day eaten by locusts."

Remember this article about AI inbreeding?

There's a name for it:
Again, doubling down, the "Tech Bros" are using AI generated training data. Data science literally calls this "Hapsburg AI," after the 19th Century Austrian royal family. It's data science's anser to inbreeding.

What is Syntropic Farming?: A Permaculture Perspective

The word syntropy, as contrasted to entropy, paints a powerful picture of a system that accumulates matter and energy, become more complex over time, all in order to create abundance. It is a form of process based agriculture, as opposed to input based agriculture, typical to industrial systems.
[---8<---]
Syntropic Farming is an innovative approach to regenerative agriculture which allows us to create dynamic, successional, and economically viable ecosystems that restore degraded soil biodiversity. By understanding and respecting nature's complex system, Syntropic Farming imitates the natural regeneration of forests and provides a harmonious integration of our food production systems

After the Washington Post incident and its followup, people have been talking about freedom of the press. So far, the Post has lost over 200,000 subscribers -- about 8% of its total -- as well as 2 columnists and 3 of the 9 editorial board members. Kick him where he lives! His wallet.

So what is freedom of the press? What is freedom of thought, of expression? Let's explore...

Recently I posted about self-improvement, and [personal profile] arlie commented about how it is often forced on people.  In my reply, I used two words that just popped into my head as I was typing: neuroprivileged and neuroppressed.  It's not about what you can or can't do.  It's not about being "divergent" from the "typical."  It's about whether society likes  the kind of person you are and the brain you have, or disdains you because you're not what they wanted.  People with a popular kind of brain and personality are neuroprivileged -- tools and processes are designed with their needs or preferences in mind, they are welcomed into activities, and they are praised for being "good."  People with an unpopular kind of brain and personality are neuroppressed -- tools and processes are rarely if ever designed for them, and those designed for others often harm them (rather like left-handed people suffering more accidents in a right-biased world), they are shut out of activities by force or self-preservation, and they are constantly told how "bad" they are.

You're not good; you're privileged.  You're not bad; you're oppressed.

Feel free to use these terms if you find them helpful.

A floodle is a giant puddle that forms in a low spot on relatively flat land. In some areas, they may only last a few hours or days, but in others they can last for weeks or even months. It depends on the soil composition, water table, and whether or not more rain falls. They can be natural, or because of human foolishness.
