Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently?

Today's yardening work involved planting a handful of persimmon seeds, clearing space to plant cockscomb and assorted wildflower seeds, and laying those down too.  Then I deployed the last bag of American Countryside top soil (which is not actually soil, but rather a blend of fine mulch, compost, and other lovely fluffy stuff) to hold down the seeds.  Finally I sprayed some poison ivy with weedkiller.

Also I saw the bluejay I've been hearing for a couple weeks.

Also, I'm intrigued by the subtle, probably inadvertent, but extremely powerful riff on male!Thor battling depression.  There's a discussion about how every day he struggles with wondering whether he'll be able to pick up the hammer, and how tired he gets, wanting someone to carry it for a while.  It's just not something that comics usually deal with at all, but I like the hints of it in Thor's storyline.
