Birdfeeding
Apr. 17th, 2022 02:58 pmToday is cloudy and cool, but mostly calm.
I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and doves, along with a pair of house finches. Not much activity so far.
I started picking up junk from the patio to throw away.
EDIT 4/17/22 -- We filled a large garbage back with junk to throw away.
EDIT 4/17/22 -- I started planting seeds in the septic garden: zinnia 'California Giants', sunflower 'Autumn Beauty', bachelor buttons 'Jubilee', angelica 'Vicar's Mead', bee balm 'Lemon Bergamot', and yarrow 'Colorado Mix'.
EDIT 4/17/22 -- I started planting seeds in the flower garden by the telephone pole: hollyhock 'The Colorful Single Hollyhock Mix', zinnia 'California Giants', sunflower 'Autumn Beauty', bachelor buttons 'Jubilee', angelica 'Vicar's Mead', bee balm 'Lemon Bergamot', and yarrow 'Colorado Mix'.
EDIT 4/17/22 -- I watered the two gardens where I planted seeds earlier, and the pawpaw seedlings.

Yard Pictures: House Yard and Orchard
Apr. 17th, 2022 09:52 pmSaturday was sunny, so I took lots of pictures. These are from the house yard and orchard. See the forest garden and herb gardens, south lot and west edge, forest yard and wagonwheel garden, savanna and prairie garden, and ritual meadow and flowerbeds.

Poem: "Hromada"
Apr. 17th, 2022 11:40 pmThis is the freebie for the April 2022
crowdfunding Creative Jam. It was inspired by a prompt from
zeeth_kyrah. It also fills the "needs" square in my 4-4-22 "Aspects" card for the Genderplay Bingo fest.
Hromada
It is one of humanity's deepest needs:
community, a tight-knit group of people who
stick together and take care of each other.
It is beyond family or faith, politics or
profession, name or nationality.
Everyone needs somewhere
to belong, to be at home.
No one can be strong
all the time, and that is
why we have each other.
Community stands tall,
turning its face to the light
difficult if not impossible
to uproot, like a field
of sunflowers.

Notes:
Twitter thread on Ukrainian political philosophy: "hromada," meaning community.
Ukraine's national flower is the sunflower. The kind that form tubers, like sunchokes, are extremely difficult to get rid of because you always miss a few bits.
