Monday Update 7-23-18
Jul. 23rd, 2018 04:39 amThese are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Poem: "One Moment of Opportunity"
Jokes vs. Attacks
Today's Adventures
Poem: "Any Fight Worth Fighting"
Poem: "Forever in Your Broken Heart"
Emotional Intimacy Question: Family
Good News
The half-price sale in Polychrome Heroics has concluded. I have a couple more pieces to post from that.
Poetry in Microfunding:
There are now three open epics. One more has a donation and will be opened as I have time, so other than those, we're full for now.
"Energy, Made Visible" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Shiv. Now Shiv flibbers over being unable to earn ALL the pretty colors at once.
"Only If It Is Embraced" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Damask and has 44 new verses. In which a supervillain and a cop argue over donuts.
"Mask of the White Demon" belongs to Kande's Quest. Kande finds a shaman to help her pursue the demons who kidnapped her brother.
The weather has been variable here, mostly warm, and we got some rain. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: sparrows, several cardinals, flocks of of house finches, a few doves, and a squirrel. I also saw a heron actually in the yard, flying among the trees! :D In bloom: marigolds, gazania, blue lobelia, white alyssum, zinnias, torenia, salvia, cleome, petunia, million bells, snapdragons, lantana, coreopsis, dianthus, peppers, basil, daylilies, begonia, morning glory, butterfly weed, yellow wildflowers, blackberry lilies, cup plant, spiderwort, echinacea, and sundry others. Crabapples, apples, and pears have green fruit. Blackberries are ripening, but there aren't many this year.

Poem: "When You Strike and Overcome Him"
Jul. 23rd, 2018 08:29 pmThis poem is spillover from the July 3, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from Dreamwidth user Technoshaman. It also fills the "fighting" square in my 6-23-18 card for the Hurt/Comfort Bingo Fest. This poem belongs to the Officer Pink thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.
This microfunded poem is being posted one verse at a time, as donations come in to cover them. The rate is $0.50/line, so $5 will reveal 10 new lines, and so forth. There is a permanent donation button on my profile page, or you can contact me for other arrangements. You can also ask me about the number of lines per verse, if you want to fund a certain number of verses.
So far sponsors include: DW user Technoshaman,
ng_moonmoth, DW user Gingicat,
rix_scaedu, Anthony & Shirley Barrette
FULLY FUNDED
507 lines, Buy It Now = $254
Amount donated = $106
Verses posted = 63 of 163
Amount remaining to fund fully = $149
Amount needed to fund next verse = $.50
Amount needed to fund the verse after that = $3
WARNING: This poem contains material that some readers may find disturbing. It begins the raid on Carl Bernhardt's mad science compound. WARN ALL THE THINGS! Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It features a BASH raid, Turq coming along to provide crucial assistance, extreme emotional distress, arguing over what armor and other equipment to carry, anxiety, graphic violence, Nazi-inspired weaponry, graphic injuries and messy medical details, identifying Carl Bernhardt and other offenders among the captives, and other mayhem. If these are touchy topics for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. However, this is a major turning point in the plot, so skipping it would leave a big gap.

Today's Adventures
Jul. 23rd, 2018 11:19 pmWe went up to the Champaign County Fair today.
For lunch we had a gator po'boy. I am quite fond of alligator, and this was excellent -- little nuggets fried with spices. It tastes nothing like chicken to me, but very much like frog, which I also like. We also had a funnel cake, a shakeup, and later on some deep-fried oreos.
There's not a lot of fair stuff there -- one exhibit barn and some farm animals -- but they did have a petting zoo with camels. The rides weren't running, but at least all the food vendors were open.
A company that runs escape rooms had set up one, so Doug wanted to try that, and I tagged along. It was kind of interesting, although not the kind of thing I'd do of my own accord. I was intrigued to note that it required both visual and logical-mathematical thinking. That got me wondering if anyone is doing escape rooms based on other types of intelligence. Maybe not here, but probably in Terramagne.

Basic Emoticons
Jul. 23rd, 2018 11:25 pmThere are emoticons for all kinds of feelings and other situations. It occurred to me that, as people spend more time communicating through text media, part of what's driving the emoticon boom is a need to express at least the basic emotions. So that got me wondering if there are, in fact, emoticons for all of those. Learn them and you have the primary colors of the human heart.
