Animated Movies
Mar. 21st, 2016 12:53 pmThis morning when I got up, I noticed the title on Doug's computer: "The two scariest words for Hollywood studios in 2016: animated movie."
So I asked him what was scary about animation, and he said it was the risk. A successful animated movie has the highest profit margin of any format. But they also cost the most to make, so it's a big loss for movies that don't succeed. CGI movies are even more expensive, unless you cut corners on things like water and hair.
I thought for a moment and said, "So do the movie in traditional cels and pay more for a better script."
In my sleep. Remember, it takes my brain about an hour to boot up after waking. I solved a problem, that Hollywood is pissing and moaning over, in my sleep. With nothing more than the part of my brain that can run an automatic routine but fumbles even that if even one detail is different -- which immediately happened because of the conversation.
Wow. I knew Hollywood was bad at solving problems, but worse than my autobrain? Dudes. That is lame.

General Fund Poll for Mid-March
Mar. 21st, 2016 02:27 pmThe half-price sale left $13.50 in the general fund. Now you get to vote on where to put it. I will keep this poll open at least until Tuesday midday. If there's a clear answer then, I'll close it. Otherwise I may leave it open a little longer.
There are two open epics. "Holding Hope and Love" belongs to Polychrome Heroics and needs $147.50 to be complete. "The Door to Nowhere" is a crossover between P.I.E. and Schrodinger's Heroes, needing $46 to fund fully.

The Crowdfunding Creative Jam this past weekend went well. I wrote 7 poems, one posted. A couple of people wrote and posted things based on my prompts, also linked from my post.
The half-price sale in Schrodinger's Heroes last week also did well. Read the sponsored poems via links in the sale page. There is also a poll for the general fund.
Poetry in Microfunding:
"Holding Hope and Love" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Cheersquad helps a lot of people. "The Door to Nowhere" is a crossover between P.I.E. and Schrodinger's Heroes. Brenda and Darrel tangle with Evil!Schrodinger.
Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Unicorns on Parade" "Spruce Deer" "Wandering the Heights" (poetry). Back to me for edits: "Winterheart" (parts 2-3), "Stinging Like Nettles" "Off the Clock" (poetry). Currently in front of the canon board: "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction). Drafted: "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" (poetry), "Southern Breads" "Tangleweed Article" (articles), Jularei (character sheet). In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," "Finding the Holes," "Broken Hopes," "Brewing Beauty," "Little Paws in the Licenses" (fiction), "The Smallest Invaders," "Raising the Future" "Beach Pies" "Unsolid Ground" "Riding from the Rescue" "To Ride Death" (poetry), "Rammer" (nonfiction). Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).
The weather is brighter today. Seen at the bird feeders this week: large flock of sparrows, several mourning doves, a pair of cardinals, and a squirrel. Currently blooming: snowdrops, crocus, daffodils, Cornelian cherry dogwood, forsythia, apricot tree. Leafing out: honeysuckles, lilacs, columbine, naked ladies, daylilies, grape hyacinth, white starflower, violets, wild strawberries, crabapples, gooseberries, gold currants.

Monday Yardening
Mar. 21st, 2016 04:53 pmToday we cleaned half the raspberry patch in the ritual meadow. It runs along the south fence, actually covering both sides but the far side is in the orchard area. So we took out the dead berry canes, cut other brush, and raked the ground. Some of the raspberries have migrated too far from the fence and need to be moved back. I'll have to do that later. But they are leafing out now.

Poem: "All Hopes for a Better World"
Mar. 21st, 2016 05:42 pmThis poem is spillover from the March 1, 2016 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by comments from
capri0mni,
thnidu, and LJ user Lone_cat regarding "The Conduit for Influence." It also fills the "fear" square in my 2-29-16 card for the Villain Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the Officer Pink thread of the Polychrome Heroics series. The two poems overlap somewhat, but "The Conduit for Influence" is from Ansel's perspective while "All Hopes for a Better World" is from Turq's perspective.
