Three Weeks for Dreamwidth
Apr. 25th, 2025 12:49 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Three Weeks for Dreamwidth runs April 25-May 15. During this time, people post content only visible on Dreamwidth (although it can be reposted elsewhere after the event ends). There's usually a flurry of activity as bloggers share anchor posts, new fiction, icons, banners, questionnaires, friending fests, memes, and other goodies. Community hosts often hold special activities in their communities too. Watch your reading page for more festivities. (See the introductory posts from 2022, 2023, 2024.) To find posts for this event, follow the Threeweeks feed.
This year I plan to post about goal-setting frameworks for
newcomers. See "My Blog Is About..." for an overview of my blogging in general.
I have also posted about this event in my communities. See the entries:

Ways to Participate
Three Weeks for Dreamwidth is all about celebrating Dreamwidth, however you use the platform. So there are many different ways that you can participate in this event. Some are quick and easy; others are more challenging and exciting. There are structured and freeform options, so hopefully there will be something for everyone. You can pick one thing or lots of things to do. Choose a level of activity that appeals to you. This is a fun, low-pressure event so don't stress over it.
* Announce the event in your blog and/or communities: Three Weeks for Dreamwidth (April 25-May 15). This can be as simple as posting a description, or as complex as inviting your audience to volunteer for activities in this event.
* Make things to promote Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, such as banners, icons, or Artist Trading Cards. The "dreamsheep" appearing in Dreamwidth art is cute and popular, but you're not limited to that.
veronyxk84 has created a Three Weeks for Dreamwidth icon in 6 colorways. The 2025 set has cute clip art. You can ask about custom icons by commenting under that post.
seleneheart is offering to make a custom-designed dreamsheep icon for anybody who wants one. (Mine from 2023 is the adorable blue one that appears on my Follow Friday posts.)
bluedreaming has made a 2025 banner with birds flying that anyone is welcome to use.
* Invite people to join Dreamwidth. Especially if you see someone complaining about a different platform, and Dreamwidth addresses those concerns, explain how this platform could solve the problem. If you have friends on other services, this is a good opportunity to encourage them to come here.
* Welcome new users to Dreamwidth and help them get established here so they'll want to stick around. Note that Tumblr is in upheaval again, so lots of people are moving here from there.
newcomers has lots of resources about how to use Dreamwidth and where to find things here. For folks coming from Tumblr,
soc_puppet is posting tutorials for that angle.
* Check
addme,
addme_fandom,
add_a_writer, or other friending communities to find new people on Dreamwidth. If you haven't posted there in the last year or so, consider making a post of your own too. Recent friending memes include Silmarillion Friending Meme and Spring Friending Meme.
friending_memes posted about planning a new friendzy, so watch for that to appear.
allbingo occasionally posts a thematic questionnaire and chat post to go with its bingo fests; the last one is the Valentines Meet and Greet for February's Valentines theme.
booknook is hosting a Book Friending Meme.
allkindsofdolls is hosting a Doll Friending Meme.
* Donate Dreamwidth points. You can do this directly or with a raffle, or however else you like. This helps people get a premium account with more features. It's a nice way of supporting a blogger or community you value, or just encouraging new folks to participate.
yourlibrarian is hosting a points giveaway, so you can join that if you wish. Add your request here to receive points.
* During Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, use an icon about it on your related posts, or even make that your default icon for the duration of the event. This is one of the easiest ways to support it.
* Make a post every day during Three Weeks for Dreamwidth. Leave that content only here during the event; it can be copied elsewhere later if you wish. You can do this in your own blog, in a community you run, and/or in a community you frequent. Some communities have signup posts where you can volunteer to do things like hosting a fest or making recommendations on a given topic; this is a good time to do that. You could use the Bingo Card Generator if you want prompts; it has dozens of prompt lists on many different themes.
* Choose a topic for the event, or a set of topics like one for each week, and create substantial anchor posts about it. These not only attract attention to your blog during the event, they can continue amusing or educating people long afterwards. Use this opportunity to support your favorite subjects or causes, the things you care enough about to put some work into. It doesn't have to be text; if you're an artist or photographer, you could use images instead. Do you have a YouTube channel or the like? Post your videos! Are you a podcaster? Make audio posts or invite people to suggest things for you to perform.
* Blog about blogging! Write down what you love about blogging, how to make a certain type of post, a list of post ideas, etc. You can do this once or repeatedly, short or long, whatever works for you.
* Use a blogging questionnaire, fannish questionnaire, or other list of interesting questions to prompt posts and conversations. You can find these around Dreamwidth and elsenet. Here are some conversation starters. My post "Improving Community in Fandom" has links to many fannish questionnaires that you can use, and I've added even more in the 2024 post "Questions and Questionnaires for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth."
first_doctor has posted a first doctor era questionnaire.
seventhdoctor has posted a seventh doctor era questionnaire
* If you don't feel like posting things yourself, you could look for other folks who've chosen a "post a day" questionnaire or topic, and comment on each of their posts. Pretty much everyone loves comments, which help motivate bloggers to keep up their posting plans.
* Visit your favorite communities and interact with them. Make a post of your own. Comment on other people's posts. Search for new communities via Interests. Extra credit: Work on reviving a dormant community with a cool concept. See my post on "Improving Communities on Dreamwidth." See the Follow Friday Master Post for topical lists of active communities.
* Check
dw_community_promo for recently launched communities and help them get established. Remember that if you host a community, you can promote it once a week until it is 90 days old, and once a month after that. You might want to check once at the beginning and once toward the end to catch the things people post during Three Weeks for Dreamwidth.
* If you don't find an active Dreamwidth community on your favorite topic, launch your own!
vriddy has an excellent collection of resources on how to start a community. Now is a great time for this because lots of bloggers will be active over the next few weeks and looking for new things to do.
* Participate in
followfriday and Community Thursday. These help people find new communities and blogs to follow, and increase activity in them. See the Follow Friday Master Post for topical lists of active communities.
* Host a special event in your blog or community, such as a contest or giveaway. Past examples include giving away Dreamwidth points for a premium account, making Dreamwidth-themed arts and crafts, writing competitions, love memes, and so on. If your event is fannish, like a prompt call, comment ficathon, or recommendation fest then post about it on
fandomcalendar and
fandom_on_dw to help more folks find it. For everything else, use

linky has several Tokusatsu events running.
yourlibrarian is hosting a points giveaway.
sarajayechan is running the Fire Emblem Prompt Meme. Meme will be open until May 15th. All Fire Emblem games are welcome, as are all mediums! Prompt as much as you want, fill as much as you can, and have fun!
got_quiet is hosting a Music Challenge at Beautiful Mechanical.
soc_puppet is calling for themes to feature in
summerofthe69 later. (NSFW) That post will close to new comments on April 30th; on May 1st, a poll will go up for members to vote on this year's themes. The poll will close on May 15th, and themes will be finalized by May 18th to allow everyone time to plan for the 2025 fest.
silvercat17 has posted the challenge "Dreamwidth Red" in the
rainbowlounge prompt community. If you don't want to post original fic/art, you can use it as a prompt list for fiction, non-fiction, art, crafts, videos, icons, blog posts, etc.

florianschild is talking about reviving the

* From a previous Follow Friday, this post gathers primers and guides for new Dreamwidth users or current users who want to do more things on Dreamwidth. My Cohost Is Closing and Twitter Exodus posts have more. Good communities for newcomers include
getting_started,
dw101,
newcomers,
reddit_refugees, and
twitter_refugees. You can share these resources if you see people struggling with how to get active here.
What are you doing for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth? Remember to tag your posts with "threeweeks" or "three weeks for Dreamwidth" so they appear in the feed. (Sometimes the feed is glitchy and doesn't catch everything. If a post hasn't appeared after 10 minutes, sometimes reposting will make it show up, and then you can delete the earlier one that didn't.) If you let me know, I can add a link to your activities so more folks can enjoy them.
