The weather has been cooler and windy the past week, and it rained several times. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, a flock of blackbirds, several starlings, several mourning doves, a pair of cardinals, a tufted titmouse, a male downy woodpecker, a dark-eyed junco, and a fox squirrel. One of the house finches has been eating from the thistle feeder. Snow crocuses are winding down. Currently blooming: giant crocuses, mininature irises, snowdrops, daffodils, winter aconite, and forsythia. Honeybees, bumblebees, and other flying insects are out on sunny days, brawling over the first few blossoms.
