Surround yourself with books you haven't read yet.

Sure I've read a lot of the thousands of books that line my house. I haven't read them all. It would be awful to need a book to read and not have a fresh one. I can pull a cookbook off the shelf for a long car ride, or poke through piles of things I picked up at a used book store that looked interesting.

lol, this made me feel slightly less bad about the fact that i just stacked my books so beautifully and delicately yesterday that i'll never be able to take one from the stack without having them all come tumbling down. i sort of just surrendered there because i knew that these were the books i'd never get to.

That is so awesome. You could totally give me that as a picture prompt in some fishbowl. :D

Don't feel bad. It took me several years before I could turn loose of any books, even ones I didn't even like. Eventually I managed to do it by cashing them out at a used bookstore and reserving the funds to buy new books in case I needed to replace anything I chucked out, or pick up a new reference. I'm a dragon; I hoard books; but I am sapient enough that I can sometimes work around the instinct to hold ALL THE BOOKS.

I can't read in the car - I get seriously carsick in a few minutes. Long rides when I'm not driving are BORING. I fool around trying to get something interesting on the radio, or I bring CDs if I remember.
