This is today's freebie, inspired by a prompt from
helgatwb. It also fills the "pig" square in
my 5-1-23 card for the Pets and Animals Bingo fest.
"Yelve"n 1000 -1886: dung-fork; garden-fork; to use such a forkThe life of the farm
revolves around the yelve.
The pigs, cows, and horses
put out their wastes, and then
the dung-fork moves all of
that to the manure pile.
The chickens come
to peck at the refuse,
and then they lay eggs.
The yelve turns the pile
so it breaks down faster.
Over the winter, straw and
manure turn into rich compost.
In spring, the yelve forks it
into the honey-wagon and then
forks it off the wagon into the fields.
The crops grow in fertile earth,
are picked and cooked and eaten.
The scraps go the pigs and chickens,
who eat them and produce more manure.
The yelve comes out and the cycle starts again.
