The following commentary on this movement is not civil.

The current inhabitant of the Oval Office has committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, environmental wreckage, economic meltdown, despoilage of American ideals, and wholesale destruction of America's standing in the eyes of the world. In eight years of EPIC EPIC FAIL we have not succeeded in having him impeached.

Our President-Elect has not even been inaugurated yet. AT LEAST FUCKING WAIT FOR HIM TO ***DO SOMETHING*** before deciding that he needs to be impeached for it!! Or I'll break this virtual soapbox over your solid-bone head.

*brutally hatchets snarky comment about Cheney and sour grape Republicans and face-shooting*

Shrubya's still in office. I'd rather not have HSA goons kicking in my apartment door, given my proximity to Gestapo Central.

Still, it makes for a lovely mental image, and it'd clean up the gene pool too!

They can't even come up with their own concepts, either. A lot of those images are rip offs of anti-bush things that have been around for years.

Plus sickles. Because, y'know, those are just scary to people who remember the Soviet era..

Yeah, I noticed that too.

And, really, what's so bad about socialism/communism? Sure, Soviet-style communism was bad, but the same can be said of unregulated capitalism.

But not quite on the same mass-murdering-millions-of-people scale. Stalin murdered more innocent civilians than Hitler (granted, he did have a bit longer to do it in).

I agree with you, though. Take Israeli kibbutzim, for example - same principle, but on a more manageable scale. And without Russia's particular and unfortunate knack for putting evil or incompetent (or both) people in charge.

Hmm...

The core ideal of communism and socialism is that people should share and take care of each other. The core flaw is that those systems tend to leave out appropriate rewards for diligent work, which leaves people unmotivated, and without the opportunity for some personal gratification ... people tend to laze.

Conversely capitalism inspires people to work hard by holding out the promise of wealth, and indeed, some people become wildly wealthy by working hard. The core flaws are that the system can't reward everyone who works that hard with that kind of wealth, or even most people; and that it's largely every-man-for-himself and devil take the hindmost.

Also, the larger the system, the less well it tends to work; that may simply be because we've had 50,000 years of experience managing families and tribes; 5,000 years managing small to medium civilizations; and a century or two of managing a globe.

If I were to design an optimum system, I'd look at functioning systems for inspiration -- frex, nature. It's interdependent yet modular; it's fractal; it has tremendous fault tolerance. Everything that could be done on a small scale, I'd assign to small-scale systems. Things that had to be done on a large scale would be done that way, but everything always at the lowest, localized possible level. I'd look for ways to make sure that everyone's basic needs were met: this is human and practical, removing the incentive for much crime. Then I'd tie the upgrades to diligent work, brilliant ideas, or whatever else I wanted to maximize. If you want to work hard and have a lot of luxuries, you should be able to do that and enjoy the fruits. If you'd rather live simply and spend more time with your family or leisure, that's also fine. Or anything in between, which is probably what most people would do. And for gods' sake find some ways to match wasted resources with unmet needs!

Why? They're effectively close to a "common carrier". We've got four or five items we've designed up there. I don't know what their policy on obscenity or hate speech or whatever is, but certainly, anything short of that, they don't interfere with. Blaming Cafe Press for this is like blaming the hardware store for selling spray paint for graffiti. Which, in Massachusetts, they kinda do . . .

Cafe Press didn't design these. They're just the printer. Their customers run the gamut from very liberal to very conservative, and all points in between.

The extreme right is already finding out how us liberal-leaning moderates and full-fledged liberals felt for the past eight years! Too bad for them!

Frankly, after being thoroughly disgusted and disturbed by some of the extremism, the hate, rage, and racism that I saw during the past few weeks, I'm not at all surprised by this. I shake my head and sigh, but I'm not surprised.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The rabid Right Wingers are pretty much foaming at the mouth to get at the new Prez. It wouldn't shock me if they were successful at impeaching Obama. They did it to Bill Clinton for idiotic reasons. Apparently, if you lie about having sex, you can be impeached but, if you lie about the reasons to start a war that's not needed or wanted and will bring death and sorrow, it's all good and business as usual will continue.

Asshats.

I think you're giving too much weight to it to call it a "movement". It's not. It's one dillhole with a copy of PhotoShop, or not even that much, making a bunch of incredibly simplistic designs I could duplicate myself on my laptop, and uploading to Cafe Press, which allows anyone to create items for sale, for free.

You can't impeach Obama bc 1) he isn't president yet and 2) he hasn't done anything to be impeached for.

The guy who owns the shop probably doesn't even feel that, probably just perceives there's a market.

I myself have seen similar bumper stickers and T-shirts, PROFESSIONALLY MADE (these are not, they are home jobs) about Bush. My favorite reads:

FRODO FAILED
BUSH HAS THE RING

Seriously, this guy is not worth the amount of time I took to even write this comment.

Check out some of the comment threads on the articles about Obama's apologizing to Nancy Reagan for his séance comment, and you might be surprised how vociferous and common the sentiment is. *shaking head* He's going to have them nipping at his heels constantly.

I heard that the day after Clinton won his first election, people in the Repubilcans had a committee meeting (again, the Wed after the Tuesday election) to discuss how they would impeach Clinton. Insanity.

What Clinton did is trivial compared to what Bush has allowed to transpire during his term, and the Dems did NOT have the balls to impeach him and get him out of office.

It breaks my brain.

*shrug* It simply reveals, with brutal clarity, what people's priorities are: they consider it acceptable to lie, to kill people, to torture people, to violate people's privacy, to destroy the environment, and to allow people to profit from parasitic business practices. They don't consider human sexuality acceptable. And they act accordingly.
