Paul Loeb on the College Vote
Jun. 19th, 2008 11:56 amI first bumped into Paul Loeb when he bought a poem of mine, "Origami Emotion," for his anthology The Impossible Will Take a Little While. Currently he's involved in getting college-age people to register for voting so they can participate in America's decision-making processes. He's got a resource page for that here.
Whatever your political leanings -- I know my audience isn't homogenous on this -- please check your voter registration to make sure it's current, and if you're eligible but not already registered, please go do that. Encourage other people to do it too. If you can volunteer your time/skills or make a financial contribution to a candidate, party, or voters' organization then that is also beneficial. Democracy only works if people participate actively and honestly.
If the world goes to hell in a handbasket, it won't be because I didn't leave clawmarks along the walls on the way down.
