Today is partly sunny, breezy, and mild.

I fed the birds.  I put up a new corncob.  I've seen a flock of house finches and a lady cardinal at the hopper feeder.  I spotted a downy woodpecker in the big pile of dead branches by the driveway.  :D  It's been a while since I've seen a woodpecker here.

While we were out, I think I saw an eagle.  It was silhouetted against the sky, so I couldn't see color, but it was too big for a hawk, the wrong shape and had a head so it's not a vulture.

I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants.

EDIT 9/6/24 -- I watered the patio plants, picnic table, and septic garden.

EDIT 9/6/24 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Iceland locals are saving baby puffins by tossing them out to sea

When photographer and content creator Kyana Sue Powers visited the volcanic islands of Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland for the first time, she was surprised to see families out patrolling the streets, boxes and flashlights in tow.

When she asked them what they were up to, they said they were searching for baby puffins — also known as pufflings. If found, they would be rounded up and gently tossed off the cliffside in the morning.

The pufflings get confused by the town lights, so people redirect them out to sea where they belong.

We went up to the Broomcorn Festival. (See the schedule for the rest of the weekend.) Nice weather today, partly sunny and warm with a breeze.
