Hobbies: Juggling

Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. This batch features hobbies.

Juggling is a hobby of tossing and catching objects. It can be done with anything small enough to throw, alone or in teams. It also overlaps with a lot of other performance arts and dexterity hobbies. Many jugglers will perform atop something like a ball or balance board, and they often enjoy skill toys like devil sticks or poi balls.

Birdfeeding

Today is partly sunny and warm.

I fed the birds.  I've seen several house finches and a pair of wrens, probably Carolina wrens.

EDIT 4/18/24 -- I started spreading compost in the wildflower garden and topping it with Partial Shade Wildflower Mix from last year.

A purple anemone is blooming in the wildflower garden.

The nannyberry viburnum is blooming near the house.

EDIT 4/18/24 -- I spread more compost and sowed wildflower seed.  Gosh, I was out there almost an hour this time.

I heard a woodpecker drumming on old, soft wood which has a mellower sound than the sharp hammering of hard wood.  I suspected the old maple tree between the savanna and prairie garden, which has a lot of woodpecker holes.  I didn't get a great view, but I caught the flash of yellow and the dark necklace, so I'm thinking it was a northern flicker.  We have them sometimes, but I haven't seen any in several years, so I'm delighted to have one now.

I'm hearing faint rumbles of thunder, so I don't know if I'll get back outside today.

One of the serviceberries in the savanna is blooming.  :D  I think this is the first time.



 

Review: Les Gourmets Cuisine

My partner Doug went up to Champaign today. He stopped at a food court to try a new restaurant, Les Gourmets Cuisine by Christelle, which is Congolese food. We're fans of African cuisine in general, so he brought home a ton of food. I am just so happy that we now have multiple African restaurants close enough to visit.
