Birdfeeding
Feb. 2nd, 2024 02:19 pmToday is cloudy and mild.
I haven't fed the birds yet, but have observed interesting behavior. A flock of sparrows and one female cardinal came to the forest garden, acting ravenous. There were often three sparrows on each side of the hopper feeder, and it's nowhere near three-bird-cold outside. Usually they don't like to share unless the weather is frigid, so: two-bird-cold, three-bird-cold, four-bird-cold. And one of them kept pecking at the corn on the cob, despite whole kernels being too big for sparrows to eat and too hard to crack.
My two seed orders thus far have shipped. \o/
EDIT 2/2/24 -- I fed the birds.
The sun is occasionally peeking through the clouds, and wind has picked up a little, but it's still a mild day.
I walked around the south lot. The sedum is just starting to sprout at the base. I should trim off the dried stems. Some flower bulbs are sprouting and have been for a while.
EDIT 2/2/24 -- I cut brush in the parking lot.
EDIT 2/2/24 -- I trimmed dry stems around the purple-and-white garden.
EDIT 2/2/24 -- I trimmed dry stems around the septic garden. Garlic chives are just beginning to sprout too.
As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Poem: "Corruption, Redemption"
Feb. 2nd, 2024 02:34 pmThis poem was written outside the regular prompt calls. It fills the "Corruption" square in my 7-1-23 card for the Fireworks Bingo Fest. It has been sponsored by a pool with
fuzzyred. This poem belongs to the Trichromatic Attractions thread in the Polychrome Heroics series.

Recipe: "Oatmeal Coconut Cookies"
Feb. 2nd, 2024 11:38 pmTonight I'm making Oatmeal Coconut Cookies.
We got a big can of quick oats, which had a stupid plastic top that failed to open properly. Prying it open with an oyster knife resulted in a can that doesn't have an airtight seal. So I transferred as much as would fit into the previous can, and went to look up recipes that use a lot of oats.
I've got the first batch in the oven now. :D
EDIT 2/2/23 -- The first batch is done, and the second batch is in the oven. These are quite tasty! :D
EDIT 2/5/24 -- Remember the lemon curd from my first attempt at Buddha Bars? Putting that on top of Oatmeal Coconut Cookies is delicious.
