ysabetwordsmith: Damask smiling over their shoulder (polychrome)
This poem came out of the November 2, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] chanter1944 and [livejournal.com profile] rix_scaedu. It also fills the square"The things you do mean something to people." in my 11-1-21 card for the NCIS Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by a pool with [personal profile] fuzzyred, [personal profile] ng_moonmoth, [personal profile] janetmiles, and [personal profile] edorfaus. It belongs to the Trichromatic Attachments thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Warning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes making mistakes, self-recrimination, feeling helpless, relationship issues, jealousy, commitment issues, cluelessness, questionable decisions, kidnapping, chair bondage, dubious consent, interrogation, reference to past roughhousing, use of superpowers in dubious context, suggestive fondling but not of sexual parts, emotional incompetence, clue concussion, abandoning someone in an altered state of consciousness, man crying, and other challenges. Regardless of the rough road between here and there, though, this thread does have a happy ending where the characters get married. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. This is the start of the backstory, so skipping it would leave a big gap.

I'm doing Lexember this month. The idea is to make (or learn) a new word every day. This can be for a conlang or a natural language.

Today is cloudy and mild.  It sprinkled last night.

I fed the birds.  Not much activity today or yesterday.

The first seed catalogs have arrived.

It rained fish in Texarkana.  Given the general weirding of weather, we might see more of this.

This is the freebie for the December 7, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from See_Also_Friend.

"I Love You in Cat"

The cat brings mice
as a gift of love.

You step on one
and scream.

The cat brings
you leaves because
you didn't like the mice.

You don't scream, but
you aren't excited either.

The cat brings you
candy wrappers which
are shiny and crinkly.

You don't play with them,
but you are still pleased
to get litter out of the yard
and into the garbage.

Love is about observation
as much as gifts, even when
it's saying I love you in Cat.

It's that time of year again! :D [community profile] snowflake_challenge will be running every other day in January 2022. Come celebrate your love of fandom with us.

Boost the signal to increase participation.  You might like to browse prompts from previous years to get an idea what the challenges are likely to be -- many of them repeat, like the wishlist and making a new fanwork, but the order varies.

This month's theme was "Acts of Kindness." I wrote from 1:30 PM to 6 AM, so about 14 hours 30 minutes, accounting for lunch and supper breaks. I wrote 2 poems on Tuesday and 4 later in the week.

Participation was down again, quite low with only 7 comments on LiveJournal and another 23 on Dreamwidth. A total of 7 people sent prompts.

This time of year, I usually write something about New Year's resolutions. Here I'm going to cover the idea of one-week resolutions. If you're daunted by the idea of longer-term resolutions, but unsatisfied by one-day resolutions, then one week is a timeframe worth exploring. Let's look at some ideas...

While searching for inspiration online, I found this gem of advice:
"Don’t commit to doing something for a year if you haven’t done it for a week."
