Today is sunny and hot.

I fed the birds.  I've seen house finches and doves.

I'm also seeing a lot more native bees.  I've always had some, mostly bumblebees and some tiny ones that come to the orchard in spring, but they're more active this year.  There was a black one on a marigold, possibly a mining bee or a carpenter bee.  Learn how to attract native bees.

EDIT 8/23/21 -- I finished trimming around the firepit.

EDIT 8/23/21 -- I planted wild onions in the prairie garden.

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Feathering the Nest today with a theme of nonsexual intimacies. Leave prompts, get ficlets!

If the tips reach $150, I’ll post another story of at least 7500 words, effectively doubling the word count for everyone to enjoy. The newest bonus story begins with Octavio traveling to Santa Cruz to visit the Ramirez family, only to run into one of their new neighbors…

My Dreamwidth account is about to expire.  If anyone has Dreamwidth points to spare, I could use some.  Thank you!

EDIT 8/24/21 -- Thanks to the person who sent 2 months of paid time.

EDIT 8/24/21 -- Thanks to [personal profile] snippy for sending points.

I'm intrigued by this example of restorative aquaculture.  It grows multiple native species in the same space, has a small footprint, and requires no food or other input.

Regarding community support: it's easy to make people like you and your project by giving them perks.  Either put a cut of your profits toward community upkeep like a beach reserve, or set aside part of the harvest for locals free or cheap.  Alternatively, use these things as community projects in the first place.  That's what the original clam gardens were.

Last week's fishbowl went well. I am still writing.

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics at present.

"Rainshadow Road" belongs the Daughters of the Apocalypse series. It introduces Maggot to the Clearwater Caravan.

"A Celebration and a Consolation" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Keira comforts her mother after the breakup.

The weather has been hot and muggy here, but no rain. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a few house finches, a few mourning doves, and a squirrel. Currently blooming:  spiderwort, purple coneflower, yellow coneflower, morning glories, nasturtium, cup plant, black-eyed Susan, Queen Anne's lace, petunia, zinnias, marigolds, sunchokes, purple penstemon.
