Poem: "A Way of Bringing People Together"
Aug. 22nd, 2021 08:54 pmThis poem is spillover from the August 17, 2021 Bonus Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Shirley Barrette. It also fills the "Blossom" square in my 4-1-20 card for the Spring Fest Bingo fest.
"A Way of Bringing People Together"
There are people
who paint with flowers.
They scatter skeins of color
across the landscape
like brilliant scarves,
make patchwork quilts
to cloak the ground.
They plant parterre
with geometric shapes,
lined in contrasting hues.
A river of blue blossoms
winds through a woodland.
People stroll through
the landscape, pointing out
its features to each other.
Bees and butterflies swarm
in the garden, drawn to
the big banks of blooms.
Everyone enjoys the show.
Gardens and flowers have
a way of bringing people together,
drawing them from their homes.
In the sunlight, friendships also bloom.

"Gardens and flowers have a way of bringing people together, drawing them from their homes."

Garden design can make images or words with bedding plants. See some pictures and patterns.
Parterre is a type of formal garden that relies on careful planning.
Quilt gardens use similar design principles as quilt blocks.
Other designs include a river that can be made with various blue flowers.
Note that if you use native species, carpet bedding or parterre is excellent for attracting pollinators, who gravitate toward large blocks of color. To obtain the seasonal progressions of flowers to provide a consistent food source, you can "time" different garden beds to bloom in sequence through the growing season. Ground cover natives work well in beds.
