Today's Adventures

We have a houseguest, so today's plan of posting poetry has turned into Playing With Food.  LOL  But I will share news.

For lunch we went out to Bamca, a local Mexican restaurant with a bar of fresh ingredients to assemble tacos, bowls, etc.  That was delicious.  :D

At Wal-Mart I found a gallon jug of sunflower oil.  (It has a similar non-flavor as vegetable oil.  Possibly a fancier version would have more flavor, as is true of olive oil.)  I was astonished to see that Wal-Mart also had duck fat, both in a jar and a spray can.  We got an onion to dice up for meatloaf, though there's plenty of onion left over for other things.

We stopped at Aldi because apparently they have an awesome selection of cheese this time of year. By all means if you love cheese and have an Aldi nearby, go raid the place.  We bought an ashed brie, a goat/sheep cheese with a dividing line of ash, a goat-sheep-cow cheese, an aged gouda, a scorpion pepper cheese, a truffle cheese, and an Australian grass-fed cheese.  :D  Followed by a loaf of bread so we can make grilled cheese sandwiches.  *drool, slobber*

I have finished reworking my previous elkloaf recipe to use primarily Turtle Island ingredients.  That is now in the oven.  Presently I will need to go make the maple vinaigrette, which I'll do with ginger instead of mustard.
