These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
The Need for Family Equality (20 comments)
Read "Nomess Mithoirarv"
Autism and Culture
Poem: "Old Feelings, New Feelings"
Read "Birds of War"
Muse Fusion is open! (with list of what I've written)
Poem: "Blood Will Tell"
Poem: "Manning the Handbasket"
Update from Kajones_writing

From the beginning of the week, Moment of Silence: Sally Ride and Poem "She Walks..." is up to 67 comments (wow!) and I've been asked for permission to reprint it in Silver Blade. I'm pleased that so many people have found this poem touching.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"An Amazing Carriage of Amber and Jade" belongs to the Steamsmith series.  Maryam experiments with combining two important alchemical materials.  "The Lost and Found Legion" belongs to The Silk Road Allies.  It is being funded in installments by [livejournal.com profile] marina_bonomi, and describes how China and Italy came to form an alliance.

Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Squiggles: Excerpts from Nleimen's Journal," (fiction) "Imalye Fotolyi" "Packing for the Long Haul" "A Gift of Time" "Shards of a Different Past" (poetry).  Back to me for edits: "Breaking the Ice," (fiction), "Patterns in the Grass" (poetry), "Half-Leg," (nonfiction). Currently in front of the canon board: "Nomess Mithoirarv" "The Bones of Need" (fiction), "The Girl Who Wanted Too Much" (poetry), "Ghost Bat" "A Dryland Ecosystem" "An Avian Ecosystem" (nonfiction).  Drafted: "Cutting Cords and Clasping Hands," "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "Beached Fish," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" "The Museum of Mortality" "Finding the Holes" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" "Old Feelings, New Feelings," "Five Red Beads," "The Urge to Fly," "Lullaby for a Nap at Noon," "Camping on the Lost Road," "Neighboring Attractions," "The Widow-Keeper's Lullaby," "Starfall in Red and Blue Time" (poetry), "Publishers in the Empire" (nonfiction).  In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," (fiction), "Breeding the Perfect Fighter," "The Smallest Invaders" (poetry).  Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "Reaching for the Moons" "Winterheart" "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).

The weather here has alternated between sweltering and almost sweltering.  You know something's wrong when upper 80s feels cooler.  In addition to annual plants dying, now some of the bushes and trees are starting to lose their leaves; I suspect some may simply go dormant but others will probably die.

The Grand Prairie Butterfly Club hosted a bug night at Fox Ridge recently.  They have a nice website about east-central Illinois invertebrates.  That includes a listing of their activities, if you're interested in insect observation, conservation, collection, etc.

The drought has driven away many insects this summer.  There are almost no fireflies left.  My wildflowers are pathetic scraggly things.  However, I've had good luck with pouring water for the butterflies to puddle.  The eastern tailed-blues like the driveway; on the patio where the birds splash in their dish, I see red admirals and painted ladies.

There are a lot of new stories going up now, written by [livejournal.com profile] kajones_writing.  Yaaaay, free fiction!  If you go to K.A. Jones' main website, each story has its own entry with "favorite," "like," and "write more" buttons.  Also, there's an auction running for fiction, characters, and other goodies.

From My Prompts

Donor House: Magda: Candlemas is a poignant story about a vampire's relationship with Christianity.

Donor House: Garion: Finding a Beaten Vampire features a sensible policeman from a previous story about a drunk-driving vampire, this time coming to the aid of an injured vampire. I like reading about cops who are, you know, actually intelligent and helpful.

Donor House: Jack: Searching for Someone is a bittersweet story about the search for belonging and love. This is complicated by the fact that Jack is an asexual vampire and feeding tends to have a sexual aspect.

Thear: Conall: In the Moon Garden with Sophia shows the interaction between a blind woman and her sighted friend. I really liked this in the 2011 Advent story, so I requested more about them.

Aurora’s World: Opal: Talking to Margery features a conversation between the living and the dead, about the challenges of dealing with magic.

Afterlife: Caitlyn: Guiding a War Veteran shows how not all battle scars are visible on the outside.

Everything Else

3: Donor House: Nick: Waiting for Alice explores the complex relationship between Nick and Alice; and also Blake, the bite-addict they transformed into a vampire.

Aurora’s World: Harrison: Learning to Control Fire is a vivid exploration of 'fire in the head.'

World Walkers: Taithmarin: Zoe: Meeting the Nox Gadael features a nifty new fantasy species.

Other stories include 1: ‘Astral’ World: Rynne: Living in the ‘Astral’, 2: The Brotherhood: Kara: Life and Death, The Magi: Lorna: The Promise of Seeds, 5: AU Thear: Brooke: First Day on Thear, and 6: AU The Brotherhood: Kara: A Conversation with Lucas.
