The Grand Prairie Butterfly Club hosted a bug night at Fox Ridge recently. They have a nice website about east-central Illinois invertebrates. That includes a listing of their activities, if you're interested in insect observation, conservation, collection, etc.
The drought has driven away many insects this summer. There are almost no fireflies left. My wildflowers are pathetic scraggly things. However, I've had good luck with pouring water for the butterflies to puddle. The eastern tailed-blues like the driveway; on the patio where the birds splash in their dish, I see red admirals and painted ladies.
