Poem: "So DONE with It All"
Apr. 9th, 2026 10:18 pmThis poem came out of the April 7, 2026 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by
janetmiles. It also fills the "Request" square in my 4-1-26 card for the Flower Fest Bingo.
"So DONE with It All"
Looking at the news,
I am so DONE with it all.
I'm tired of politics being
nothing more than
the Greek "poly"
meaning "many"
and the English "ticks"
for "small blood-suckers."
I am so DONE with anything
to do with Trump and his
randomized chickening out
or actually committing horrors,
so you never know what to expect.
I'm tired of men who just want
to watch the world burn and are
happy to pay illegal loggers or
oil barons to make that happen.
I am so DONE with the forever
Republican refrain, "In two weeks
we'll have health care, surrender in Iran,
free energy, America great again" --
whatever, and it doesn't matter,
because we never get any of that.
I'm tired of seeing scientists cry
because what they spent years
studying was just paved over or
went extinct some other way, and
no matter how they try to phrase
the warnings, nobody ever listens.
I am pretty much DONE with
the 21st century as a concept.
So what's left then?
Set aside politics in favor
of building resilient communities.
Hush the devil's tongue by
speaking truth and sticking
to the promises you make.
Buy locally grown and
sustainable products
as much as you can,
and prefer green energy.
Ignore the liars and their lies;
listen for whispers of truth and
watch for the people working
to make the world a bit better.
Make refugia for wildlife and
support the larger sanctuaries.
Search the past for useful ideas
that have been forgotten; seek
hope from the future and look
for ways to manifest it today.
If you're finished with things,
then put them away and
commit to creating
something new.

Date: 2026-04-30 01:15 pm (UTC)I've been so fatigued with the current state of the news and America that I've basically pushed back on a lot of things like AI use, war propaganda, and this weird trend I've noticed where people are denying years worth of research all cause a politician said it wasn't true.
"Hush the devil's tongue by
speaking truth and sticking
to the promises you make." speaks a lot to me personally since a lot of the people who have been preaching the same stuff I'm actively practicing NEVER follow through. All of a sudden they make leeway just because the vast majority are participating instead of what's true to them and then get angry with you if you don't agree with their sudden switch up. If more people kept their own promises, we'd be in a much better place

>> I've been so fatigued with the current state of the news and America <<
First, avoid overconsuming negative content. When you start to feel stressed, switch to positive content. Hence why I share science links and some good-news stuff.
Second, build up a collection of positive news sources or other content that you enjoy. Support and share those to create a general foundation of positivity.
>> that I've basically pushed back on a lot of things like AI use, <<
When AI makes you feel angry, frustrated, anxious, etc. then turn off the device you're using and go do something concrete. Gardening, cooking, crafts, facetime with friends and family -- whatever you like in the everyday world.
The basic Amish rule is, "Before adopting any new piece of technology, first determine whether it does more harm than good. If so, do not adopt it." This alone has saved me much hassle. More recently I've noticed that if someone starts bitching at their phone in Amish territory, the nearest Amish person will likely say something along the lines of, "If your tool is making you unhappy, try putting it down for a while and see if you feel better." This is excellent advice. With other friends it can be framed, "When I feel X, I try Y."
>> war propaganda, <<
Can be counterbalanced with peace skills.
>> and this weird trend I've noticed where people are denying years worth of research all cause a politician said it wasn't true.<<
Not actually new, but getting worse. Sometimes it's pure stupidity. But modern Republicans seem to target weak spots and problems to take advantage of them. Example:
Democrats: "The economy is great. Vote for us so we can do more of the same."
Republicans: "Your economic pain is real. Democrats and immigrants are to blame."
Given a choice between Democrats who definitely won't help, and Republicans who promise to help but won't, many voters choose the latter. The exploitable weak spot is that most Americas DO have serious economic problems right now and want to change that, but have little opportunity for effective change. That is a powderkeg waiting for a match.
>>If more people kept their own promises, we'd be in a much better place<<
I agree. Honesty is a virtue that can be developed over time with practice.

*bow, flourish* Happy to be of service. I write about this stuff a lot; you can always ask for more in any relevant prompt call.
