"Sometimes we motivate ourselves by thinking of what we want to become. Sometimes we motivate ourselves by thinking about who we don't ever want to be again. Everything we do is part of who we are. How we choose to use those memories, to motivate or to submit is entirely up to us."

Moderation is one approach to problem drinking, which aims to reduce the amount and/or frequency of consumption, plus harm reduction efforts to avoid negative results such as hangovers or drunk driving. In this case, Tarnish wants to find better ways of coping with challenges than getting drunk. He doesn't have a chemical dependency, just a bad habit of drinking when he feels overwhelmed, so the moderation approach is definitely helping. Plus the sobering center is heavily invested in harm reduction, so they don't push abstinence, which makes it more accessible. Supportive friends can help with moderation goals.

Vanilla extract is by far the most popular, but others such as almond and peppermint also appear often. Extracts are typically simples made from one plant source.

Bitters are extracts made with multiple plant materials, sometimes dozens in a single recipe. The flavors are much more intricate than simple extracts made from a single plant source. Historically bitters had digestive or other medicinal uses. Nowadays they are mostly used to flavor alcoholic cocktails. However, they can also be used to flavor nonalcoholic beverages or in baking and cooking. Angostura, Peychaud's, and orange are some of the most popular types. Vena's Fizz House offers an extensive array of flavors far beyond the traditional ones. Nonalcoholic bitters using glycerin or other solvents are available for people who avoid all alcohol.
