This is today's freebie, inspired by a prompt from
fuzzyred. It also fills the "Metal" square in my 10-1-24 card for the Fall Fest Bingo. It belongs to the series Quixotic Ideas and happens more or less in the middle of "A Mirror for Witches."
"The Key to Unlocking the World"
[January 2024]
These are the common magical supplies
that students need for classwork at
the Aqademy of the Qrossroads:
Flasqs -- standard set of 10
in assorted sizes and shapes
for storing mystical liquids.
Pentaqle -- one (size small)
for personal altar work.
Qandles -- as appropriate
to the student's own discipline;
a boxed set of the 5 elements,
a boxed set of the 9 colors,
and at least a dozen blanks
will suit a majority of disciplines.
Qandlesticks -- standard set of 10
in any durable metal, NOT wood
(except hedgewixen may use wood).
Qruets -- standard set of 9 (3 each in
student-grade metal, glass, and ceramic)
for holding and pouring mystical liquids.
Qrystals -- student altar kit of 25
including 24 small assorted qrystals
and 1 larger qrystal for a central focus.
Qualdron -- one made of metal.
Saquets -- standard set of 12
in assorted sizes and colors
for containing spell components.
Taroq -- one deck of cards
(divination quality for students
in that discipline; study quality
for students in other disciplines).
Familiar -- welcome but not
required; popular choices include
qat, qrow, sqops owl, and sqrat.
As you enter a new semester
at the aqademy, remember:
Education is the key
to unlocking the world.

Notes:
The Aqademy of the Qrossroads lies in Bayville, a city on Sweetwater Bay where the Cline River and the Rushwater flow into Gracewind Lake. Located near the center of the city, the campus is surrounded by parks with forest, grassland, and a few agricultural fields so that students can interact with nature as needed. One of these is Oakwood Park.

Elementalist -- a wix who works with elemental energy. A common set is Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit but there are other sets. Most elementalists have a dominant element, but some can work with multiple elements.
Familiar -- an animal companion whose connection enhances the power of a wix. Most wixen can only bond one familiar at a time, but some families, cultures, and systems of magic are known for bonding multiple familiars. For instance, some blind wixen can see through the eyes of their familiars, making it useful to have both diurnal and nocturnal ones.
Flasq -- a container for holding and storing magical liquids, such as potions, to retain their potency over time.
Hedgewix -- a person who practices hedgeqraft, a type of magic typically using natural materials and energies.
Pentaqle -- a magical diagram shaped like a five-pointed star, an altar tool with such a diagram on it, or a poetic form having five verses with five lines each of five syllables and an interlocking rhyme pattern.
Qandle -- a object made with wax and wicking for quixotic purposes. Qandles may be imbued with qui in various ways for different purposes. Often they are made in sets to define the boundaries of a circle or other ritual space. However, wax is not very strong as a quixotic material, so qandles are limited in power and range. Combining them with qandlesticks can improve these aspects.
Qandlestick -- a holder of quixotic items made with wax and wicking. Qandlesticks may be imbued with qui in various ways for different purposes. Often they are made in sets to define the boundaries of a circle or other ritual space. Because qandlesticks are made of durable materials such as metal, they have more power and range than qandles alone, so the two are often combined.
Qat -- a quixotic feline, popular as a pet or magical partner.
Qrow -- a quixotic corvid, popular as a magical partner.
Qruet -- a vessel for holding and pouring magical liquids, such as oil or wine, commonly a piece of altar equipment used in magical spells, rituals, quonsecration, or the creation of artifacts.
Qrystal -- a semiprecious or precious stone with magical aspects, or one which has been set up for a specific type of magic.
Qualdron -- a vessel for working with magical liquids, such as creating potions.
Saquet -- a small bag or pouch holding magical items; these are often used as a physical anquor for spells, such as a saquet of protection on a vehicle or worn by a person.
Sqops owl -- a quixotic raptor active primarily at night, popular as a magical companion. They are small to medium in size, often with prominent ear tufts. Compare with the nonmagical Scops owls.
Sqrat -- a quixotic rodent created some time ago by merging squirrel and rat traits. They are small, typically between squirrel and rat size, variously ground-dwelling or tree-dwelling depending on type. Coloration includes common animal colors of black, gray, white, brown, or cream along with patterns as seen in domesticated rats and bright or metallic shades sometimes seen in magical animals. Like rats, they are omnivores; but like squirrels, they love nuts and typically cache them for winter. A distinctive feature is the double tail. The upper tail is bushy and squirrel-like, the lower tail is naked and rat-like but also prehensile. The underside of the upper tail has a groove where the lower tail fits when not used separately. The front paws are nearly handlike. Sqrats are clever and curious, fast and agile, capable of solving puzzles and performing impressive acrobatics. They can be active at any time of day or night, but some types and individuals have a particular preference. They are loquatious with a large vocabulary of squeaks, chitters, barks, and other sounds; some become talented mimics.
Taroq -- a set of magical cards with images used for divination or other magical purposes.
The nine colors are the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) plust black and white. Most spells can be done with this range of colors, and beginning lessons focus on these. Other colors such as brown, gray, pink, gold, and silver are typically introduced later.
