The SeaHive is a structure made from hexagonal concrete pods. These will impede wave action during violent weather to reduce damage, and provide habitat for corals to grow into a reef. Not mentioned in the article, the interior space accessible through holes will provide shelter for fish immediately, much as a coral reef does. It's why they like to colonize docks or shipwrecks -- to hide from predators.
I'm quite a fan of artificial reef cores. I've seen a lot of interesting designs. I like that this one is good for wave muffling as well as corals and fish. That's worth tracking to see how well it works, and if it does, replicating elsewhere.
