Today's Adventures

Today we went out for errands. I think we wound up with 11 stops total.
We started in Amish territory. Our usual stops turned up a few things, but not a lot. We checked out a new store selling organic and herbal goods. I picked up a jar of Italian herbs. There were other things I'd like to try in the future that were frozen, but we didn't have a cooler with us and had a long day ahead.
We ate lunch at Shadycrest. It turns out they have a hot sandwich grill open for part of the day. Doug got a Cajun sandwich that included pepperjack cheese. I got chicken with provolone cheese and pesto sauce. Kind of messy to eat because the bread was grilled and therefore buttery, but it was so good. :D The shrimp tacos -- our typical lunch in that area -- now have serious competition.
We also visited Tools Plus where we found two medium buckets of slightly different sizes and styles (finally!), a desktop fan, a box of assorted screws, and other sundries. The most important find was the Milwaukee M18 Hatchet 8" miniature chainsaw. That, a charger, and a selection of batteries were all on sale so we were able to get a considerable discount. \o/ I love romantic walks through the hardware store.
Next we went down to Mattoon. We picked up gourmet sodas and a few other things at Cracker Barrel. I got some early plants -- pansies, violas, lobelia, and marigolds -- at Home Depot along with a pot saucer and an eye screw. Nobody had Johnny-jump-ups though, which was disappointing.
I got a few more flowers along with bags of compost and potting soil at Rural King. So I can do some gardening tomorrow. Amusingly, as I was walking into the store, a woman came out carrying a live lamb. Baa ... baa ... It made me smile to see something like that in America, where animals are more often kept out of sight.
On the way home, we went through Charleston to get the mail. I saw one yard with 4-6 purple martin houses and another yard with 2 houses, and all of those had little dark birds swarming around them, which I believe are purple martins. :D I've seen the houses before, but never the birds, even though they're supposed to breed in this area.
We found most of the things on our list, so it's been a very productive day.
