We put in an order at Spring Hill Nurseries today. Bluebells and trillium are native wildflowers. Mock orange is a fragrant shrub that attracts pollinators. Red peony will go under the fly-through birdfeeder; I have white peonies and hope to get some other colors going.
Spring Hill Nurseries
Virginia Bluebells
Naturalizes wonderfully
Pink buds open to lavender-blue blooms
Native perennial wildflower
Great in full-sun to part-shade borders
Native to North America, this perennial plant is one of the prettiest wildflowers. Clusters of small, trumpet-shaped flowers nodding from a single sturdy stem look stunning in any garden location. Blooming starts in early to mid spring with the formation of pink buds that later mature into lavender-blue flowers. Deer tend to avoid. Mertensia virginica.
Purple Prairie Trillium
A charming, carefree ground cover
Early harbinger of spring
Mottled foliage like dappled sunlight in shade
Reliably naturalizing native wildflower
Maybe the best thing about this prairie trillium is the mottled foliage, which looks like it's constantly in dappled sun--a little captured sunlight for your shady woodland garden. Trillium is a fascinating plant, it's named for all the threes present in its plant form--usually three leaves, sepals, and petals on each stem. This purple trillium variety grows unbranched, begins growing right towards the end of winter, and becomes one of the early harbingers of spring. It is a slow and steady native wildflower--it won't jump straight up but it'll dependably naturalize. Divide it every few years in the fall to increase the spread through a shady plot. Trillium recurvatum.
Double Mock Orange
Vigorous and easy to grow
Fantastic fragrance
Classic arching habit
Easy-care flowering shrub
A wonderful, orange-blossom-like fragrance makes this showy white-flowered shrub very popular. Vigorous and easy to grow, it's great for foundation plantings or shrub borders.
Red Charm Peony
Showy deep red flowers
Easy to grow and care for
Peonies can live for decades in the garden
Foliage remains attractive into the fall
Splash your garden with bold, showy red flowers in the late spring. The deep red, double flowers stand out in the garden and fresh floral displays. The fine, dark green leaves remain attractive into fall. This long-lived peony produces lots of flowers during its bloom time. It's a top choice for foundation plantings, creating a small hedge, planting along a walkway or for mixed perennial flower beds. Paeonia 'Red Charm'.
