ysabetwordsmithIt can be hard to find communities on topics you like that are still lively, so this year I have been listing active communities on Dreamwidth for ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
followfriday. I think it's easier to look a list of definitely-active communities to see which ones interest you, rather than trying to imagine what terms to search for in the Interests box. Here is a recap with some other helpful resources for building community in this venue.
Follow Friday Posts
You can visit thefollowfriday community or use my FollowFriday tag to review the individual themes. Those list both active communities and a few that are lower-traffic or dormant for each theme.
The gather posts collect several months worth of communities, but just the ones where people are still posting at least occasionally. Each one also lists the themes for its season, with links to those posts.

fatbearweek is the brand new (unofficial) comm for Explore.org and Katmai National Park's annual celebration of brown bears and fatness, Fat Bear Week! We're here to look at fat bears, talk about fat bears, and, of course, debate which bear should ultimately be crowned... the Fattest of the Fat.

hangedmanpub is a new community for Dragon Age fans who are 18+. Feel free to share fic, art, meta, or news. We also welcome promo posts for events or projects where DA is welcome, and promo posts from fancreators offering commissions, etc. We'll be squeeing about the new Netflix series and DA:D news as it drops!
kittens_and_spitefic -- The goal of this community is to prompt fan content by acting like a total troll and pretending to bash what you want to see up one side and down the other. Commenters then engage with the supposed "troll" by spamming them with cat (and other animal) macros and/or content that caters to everything the original poster professes to hate: Writing short (or long) fics in the comments, drawing the exact thing OP was ranting about, even sharing links to fic recs and meta/analysis posts. Roleplay getting one up on someone with bad opinions while creating more work for something you love, and discover new things you may be a fan of in the process!
mobilegames -- A community for mobile & gacha gaming. Basically, if it's available on Android and/or iOS, it's welcome.

paradisediner -- A brand new kpop community. So far there's a friending meme with several responses. Recommended by bluedreaming .
pluralstories -- A searchable, filterable catalog of plural stories. (Searching requires a Dreamwidth account.) Please submit your favorite plural stories here!

steve_and_eddie -- A place for Steve and Eddie fics reccs, art reccs, discussions, writing references, etc. We want your fic recc lists! Posts about the actors and their other projects also welcome. I am building the profile page to be a resource for ficcers and also to help navigate this suddenly massive pairing. That's a work in process and I welcome suggestions!
superhero_land has come to DW. It’s got a nice juicy list of acceptable fandoms. Come make some fanworks with us =)
tf_icons -- inspired by the LiveJournal community of the same name. A Vault 13 canteen can help keep you hydrated, or help you track down a GECK. [community profile] vault13 can't do either of those, but it can do anything else! (It can actually give you hints on how to survive the post-post-apocalyptic Mojave, or how to save Arroyo, if you need them. If you want help fulfilling your ancestor's destiny, try our off-topic post.)
All kinds of Fallout-related posts are welcome! If you like any of the video games, the TTRPG, that FNV tie-in comic where Benny has a different face on each page, or just RPGs or post-apocalyptic vibes in general, I hope you'll join us :)
vocab_drabbles is fairly new and looks interesting. It's using the loose definition of drabble: you're not limited to 100 words stories.
If you enjoy writing fanfic and prompts using more complex vocabulary words, this is the place! Every Friday I'll post a word. Participants can fill the prompts in two ways: 1. Write a drabble or fic of 50-1,000 words and post it to the community. 2. Comment on the prompt post itself with one sentence using the word/s in the fandom/s of your choice. Words will be college and post-college level, useful (nothing too obscure or ancient). Low pressure, no deadlines. Participate via sentences, fics, or both. Writers who complete five prompt fics get an author tag.

You can help these new communities survive and thrive by joining them, posting in them, commenting on posts, volunteering for their events, and/or boosting the signal so more folks can find them.
