One of the people who came to look at them had a little girl about 4 with 6 fingers, which had been left alone instead of being surgically mutilated. She saw the mama cat's paws and showed her mother. "Like me, mama, like me!" My friend sent them home with 2 purebred 6-toed Ocicat kittens -- not show cats, because polydactyl, but still valuable -- without any charge at all, because "that little girl needed to have those kittens. She needed them." Things like that are why, even though she has never managed to shed the attitudes of the segregated era she grew up in, she remains a treasured friend.

:D I love polydactyl cats. I still haven't finished writing up the Vermont Shag Carpet Cats from Terramagne, but they're in there -- and some are polydactyl, thumbcats, and/or handcats.

That makes sense if the fingers are functional. Partial ones without bone/muscle are more prone to get in the way. I don't support removing functional body parts just because they look different, but that's a rare stance. Lucky kid.
