Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. This is the current list of coping skills.

5. Take a walk, or go for a drive.

This gives good options for different levels of mobility, or weather conditions.  Walking outdoors is one of my favorite activities.

For anyone who can't do much outdoors, I'll suggest bird feeders, terrariums and gardens/houseplants.

Plant stands, pots and hanging baskets may be good too (depending on the specific issue).

Terrarium critters can be nice too.

I've read that ferns are quite happy in a steam-filled bathroom.

And orchids do quite well with a few ice cubes and a sunny window.

I saw a neat thing where someone put a moss garden under their dog's water dish...

Come to think of it, that would have been great for a cat I used to have. He'd swat the water bowl when he wanted more/fresher water. The issue resolved itself when we bought him a fancy cat drinking fountain, which he adored. (He'd complain very loudly for the few hours it was being cleaned, and thus unusable.)
