Fandom Snowflake: Challenge 8 Wishlist
Jan. 15th, 2021 03:39 amChallenge #8
In your own space, create a wishlist. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Your wishlist can be anything between one and ten wishes as a rough guide.
Have you ever wished for icons for a character(s) or a fandom; art for a story, podfic or fanmix you’ve created; a podfic for a story you’ve written; or a story for some artwork you’ve created? Do you have a plotbunny you’d like someone to adopt?
Maybe you'd like to find more people to squee with over your favourite fandom; or someone to collaborate with over a project? If you are new to a fandom would you like some story recs, or communities to join? Or would you like some recommendations for a new fandom?
Or is there something else you would like? If so, this is your opportunity to ask!
Note: If you would like artwork or podfic, please include a link to your story/podfic/fanmix. If you’ve requested icons or other artwork it’s helpful if you can link to any screencaps or image galleries.

My wishes:
* Inspired by another
snowflake_challenge post, I wrote a script involving Harley Quinn and unicorn food. I would love to see that turned into an actual comic.
Now with gorgeous cover art by Isabellerecs! \o/ Many thanks.
* Artwork, podfics, translations, etc. of my work in general are always welcome. Love Is For Children (The Avengers) has a list of photogenic scenes.
* Feedback is candy. I'm always looking for new readers. See my AO3 works, Serial Poetry page, and Shared Worlds for free reads. Looking for inspiration? I'm also delighted to get new contributors to open-source fandoms: The Blueshift Troupers (exploratory space travel), Schrodinger's Heroes (quantum science fiction), and The Ursulan Cycle (genderbent King Arthur).
* Hulk as anima, the indwelling female spirit of a man. I have written a series, Schrodinger's Hulk, positing Bruce as a transwoman because Hulk is a hypermasculine animus. But I haven't seen the flipside of that, and I would like to.
* Fanfic of the Dungeons & Dragons car commercial. Because I would watch the hell out of that show if it were more than 3 minutes long.
* Sapient velociraptors. I have read a few excellent examples but always eager for more.
* Drop by
dialecticdreamer and read something, then comment that I sent you. She is looking for new readers in January and will give you a ficlet. She writes fanfic of my work (some of it adding up to book-length), some original stuff of her own, and sundry other things -- yummy hurt/comfort, fluff, and families that actually work; mostly fantasy. She posts daily. Watch for the prompt calls Magpie Monday (various themes) and Feathering the Nest (always nonsexual intimacy).
* More representation of diversity in entertainment. I keep lists of my QUILTBAG charcters, sexual orientations, romantic orientations, gender identities, and disabilities. Superhero comics have an even worse-than-average problem with body size/shape, so I use this set of Olympic athletes for inspiration. I posted this on how to write genderfic.
* Are you into crowdfunding original works as well as fanfic?
crowdfunding is running the Rose and Bay Awards, and could use more nominations. Especially if you know of projects or patrons with more diversity than the increasingly dull and repetitive stuff oozing out of the mainstream publishers.
* Does anyone happen to know a source for WILD blackberry canes? I have an assortment of domestic ones, but I have wild black raspberries all over the yard and would like wild blackberries to go along. I am in central Illinois if that's relevant.
* Agitate for better clothing options. Promote genderfree clothing styles. See "What the Scissors Have Cut Asunder." Support pocket parity for garments outside menswear. See "Penny's Pocket Parity" and #Pocketfail. Post fun photos of pockets that actually hold things and ones that don't. Protest size fraud. See "When Life Throws You Some Curves." We deserve better -- especially because it sucks when the event T-shirt won't fit all the attendees. >_< Bonus points: learn to sew, knit, or crochet and make whatever you damn please.
* Poke a Bigot in the Eye. This activism method works for any offense, by promoting more of whatever's under attack. You can probably think of a bigot who deserves a few pokes with a sharp stick.
* Browse my Memorable How To entries. You will probably find something useful there. Comment if you like, but it's not required.
* Two different people offered up donations to charities chosen by the first five responders.
tielan sent $20 to Pine Ridge and
tsuki_no_bara split $20 between two different bison charities, on my behalf. \o/ When you give back to what inspires or sustains you, then it's an exchange, not a theft. Mitakuye oyasin.

Date: 2021-01-15 10:29 am (UTC)I hadn't heard of the Rose and Bay Awards, Ive just taken a quick look, what a brilliant idea. I love the way that we as the reader can choose who and what to support, rather than only having the choice of the mass market type stuff that's churned out. There are some wonderful creative people out there who just need a bit of recognition to get their foot in the door.
I've been supporting a writer who turned his back on mainstream publishing as they didn't want to support his creativity and wanted him to write something different. He started self funding through Unbound and I've contributed to his last three published works and a further two currently in progress.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Date: 2021-01-15 10:46 am (UTC)I just posted a fanwork today that was inspired by a conversation on another Snowflake post.
>> I hadn't heard of the Rose and Bay Awards, Ive just taken a quick look, what a brilliant idea.<<
I'm happy to hear that.

Exactly. That's what I'm hoping to promote.

Yay! The more, the merrier!
I got into crowdfunding because folks wanted things that I wasn't selling fast enough to conventional editors.
Editor: "I love your work, but we don't have much budget for poetry."
Fan: "I want that $500 epic."
I have now, more than once, come home from a bookstore sulking because the books on offer all sucked -- and sent money to a crowdfunder friend asking for something better. And I got it.

Date: 2021-01-15 11:35 am (UTC)And I love that you created something for a different Snowflake challenge, and someone else my create something based on that for this challenge . . . A nice connection there.
It's wonderful that you've already filled some wishes, too!
Thoughts
Date: 2021-01-16 02:53 am (UTC)The nature of Bruce-and-Hulk always makes me think of mind/brain models and theories. There are just so many options! I tend to write Bruce as forebrain/left brain and Hulk as hindbrain/right brain, but they still share a genius brain. There are other possible divisions. Also I have a scene in "Coming in from the Cold: Monday: Renovations" Part 5 where folks are talking about the Abomination as lizard-brain and Hulk as ape-brain.

It has been a fun little pinball game of inspiration. :D
>> It's wonderful that you've already filled some wishes, too! <<
I always try to go through and fill as many as I can. I'm no use on the visual stuff, but I can handle most information-based wishes and sometimes other stuff. I've done over a dozen by this point.

Date: 2021-01-15 09:03 pm (UTC)Meanwhile over in Terramagne, it turned into the series Dungeons & Dragons: The Outsiders. And that SUV became a popular zoomwagon chassis because, not only is it built like a brick shithouse, but also most mad scientists are nerds. :D
