The Pope has proposed a category of ecological sin

I note that amidst all the dithering nobody seems to have recalled that (according to this tradition) God made the Earth and told humans to take care of it, which makes destroying God's work a very credible sin indeed.  I mean, how can man name the animals if some of them have died out?  They're supposed  to be found and named.  Surely thwarting that is a sin.

I have... issues... with a great many things the church does, even Francis, who is a lot different than his predecessors, being literally from another world (the New)...

This... may not be one of them.

If he could get the Catholics working on tikkun olam, that's a HUGE chunk of the population of Europe, Africa, and South America, and a sizeable chunk here and a significant part of the upper and lower Pacific Rim... add that to what China and India are up to these days, and it might make up for the amount of sacrelige Dipshiticus Oathbreakerus is committing... (Sacrelige for Catholics, Jews, western Pagans, and Buddhists alike... it's not *quite* universal, but add those populations up and you've got a goodly plurality...)

I may not be Catholic, but I really like that guy. He is sensible and lives out the best parts of his faith by example.

It took a not-so minor miracle.. and possibly a deal with the Devil.

"Look Luci, I'll let your guy be the President with no interference, if my guy can be Pope."

"Alright J.C, you're on!" [to himself] "Sucker thinks the pope still has real power nowadays!"

Yup... of course:

*J.C grins, hiding a 'Sanders/Warren 2020' card up his sleeve*

(to himself) "Fool may win fiddle competitions but we're playing poker, and I'm looking for a full house."

(Asks quietly, for reassurance) And who are the cards for Britannia, to truly get a full house and win the entire pot for everyone's sake?

USA makes me want to sit the teenage country down and hope it can mature enough before screwing everything else up.

The not so United Kingdom makes me, Anglophile American Jew with British Jewish ancestry on one side, want to cry watching my grandparents arguing and I had divorced grandparents on both sides. :-(

Sadly there's only jokers and deuces left in that pack... Corbyn I think was the last honest man left in British politics, and look what happened to him.

Still..fear not... Uther Pendragon is still around.

I'm still *startled regularly* that no one has made the obvious connection between this Pope's choice of names, and the hagiography of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Fool of God who is patron saint of *ecology and animals*.

It's the first thing that occurred to me when I read the initial press release for the assumed name for His Holiness, and first of THAT name for the Papacy. To call himself Francis, means that his priorities are much different than any of the previous office holders. He is the first Jesuit Pope as well, and he was on pilgrimage to Jerusalem cut short when the surrounding countries started the Yom Kippur War on our holiest day. He has Argentinian community college level certificates in chemistry and philosophy.

And I'm Jewish, just grew up with a lot of Italian Catholics very fond of Saint Francis, and a Greek Orthodox priest mentor for my mom who said Jesuits were the only Roman Catholics who understood logic as well as the Greeks or the Jews. ;-)

I'd love to agree with the comments here but I just...get the feeling he is seeing popularity in the Church is dying in places, or at least attendance and is trying to stay relevant. He could do more if He and Catholicism is as powerful as he thinks. Just say 'we're doing X now' But....nope. Cause....nope
