It's snowing here. This is a fine, light snow falling straight down, like powdered sugar sifting down to coat the world. I almost never see snow falling straight down, but there's not a breath of air outside, it's perfectly calm. In fact nothing is moving excep the snow; no birds, no squirrels, no rabbits. All is still but for the slow sift of snow. Everything is shades of gray, no black or white. Pale ash-gray snow, slate trees, charcoal tires. A world with soft edges. It is very beautiful.

Many farmers had a shrine by the field -- these were common for all kinds of deities and local spirits.
