Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.
What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more?

Date: 2018-02-01 12:31 am (UTC)The school had agreed in October to put her in the 9th grade English class (a year ahead of her current age group) at the beginning of the winter semester, which was yesterday. I went in with her to see that it happened, and we were told that whoops, they didn't have space for her in either of the 9th grade English sections. They agreed to take her out of the class she was in, but had no better solution than to sit her in the library that period and do nothing.
I escalated it to the district superintendent, who has agreed to get her set up with an online English course at the 9th grade level. If she passes it, she'll go automatically into the regular 10th grade class next year. It's not an ideal solution, but it is the best one which is realistically available at this point, and I'm very pleased to have it settled so quickly and effectively.
Go you!

Date: 2018-02-01 04:56 pm (UTC)One wonders what they would have done had a 9th grader transferred in? Made room, of course...so they could, and should, have made room for the Duchess. That was a power war, pure and simple. Well done, finding a way to go around them.

Things that helped me overcome my tendency to procrastinate:
1) I hate doing things at the last minute, so I learned to do them early when possible.
2) I plan rewards for completing projects, or steps within a larger project.

Date: 2018-02-01 05:05 pm (UTC)Procrastination is one of my problems, too. Lately I've tried doing small things as soon as they turn up, if I have time. This rarely works, but I've been getting a little better at recognizing when it's going to take less time to do something than to make a note to do it later.

Date: 2018-02-01 02:38 am (UTC)Today, the boss called me into his office (ack! what now?!) to tell me that he had just made the exact same mistake last night. He now knows precisely how the mistake could so easily happen and has taken steps to prevent it from happening again. (As of last week, the "fix" was just "be more careful".)
I feel so much better now.

Date: 2018-02-01 08:20 am (UTC)Sg and an old classfriend talked about starting some kind of Pride alliance ages ago. Classfriend has been working on that and seems to be gaining momentum. Amir was talking to thon earlier about it.
One more data point indicating that it's possible the body *might* react to different people using it in significant ways. Merle sucks at cold climates and he keeps getting sick whenever he comes here, and he landed on flu season his last session. He sulked through it for a few days before finally asking me here. I stomp on illness, and *now* it gets better. Healing time is still a variable since that's a reasonable course, but Alecto's had similar experiences when splitting a healing period with a slow healer, so it's worth measuring. The reason why that's important is more complicated, so I'll leave it at that.

Use what you have. Part of maintaining a healthy multiplicity is learning who does what better, who can do it if they have to, and when to switch because one person sucks at something important going on right then. It's a huge advantage over singletons who only get one set of strengths and weaknesses.

Date: 2018-02-03 03:27 am (UTC)Over the past couple of weeks I've actually cleared a couple of feet of previously unusable counter, moved an entire shelf of cans to the pantry, gone shopping for a more practical refrigerator, and arranged for a carpenter to come out and trim the bottom of some cabinets so a current model will actually fit. (They're all 5/8" too tall, unless I want another side-by-side. When hell freezes over, thank you!) Next up will be putting light-weight metal baking pans on the high shelves, and the heavy glass ones in the low cabinets. That will also be an opportunity to weed out pans I no longer use and send them off to Goodwill. (Yes, I have the requisite pans to make an ice cream cake. No, I haven't done so since my son was 10. He's in college now.)
It's a relief to see this aspect of myself again. It's been awhile.

Other good news to anticipate is that I will visit Youngest Brother overnight on Friday and wow, a break. Lucky me.
