Cuddle Party

Everyone needs contact comfort sometimes.  Not everyone has ample opportunities for this in facetime.  So here is a chance for a cuddle party in cyberspace.  Virtual cuddling can help people feel better.

We have a cuddle room that comes with fort cushions, fort frames, sheets for draping, and a weighted blanket.  It has a basket of grooming brushes, hairbrushes, and styling combs.  A bin holds textured pillows. There is a big basket of craft supplies along with art markers, coloring pages, and blank paper.  The kitchen has a popcorn machine. Labels are available to mark dietary needs, recipe ingredients, and level of spiciness. Here is the bathroom, open to everyone.  Per request, I have added a lawn tent this time. Now we also have an outdoor hot tub. Bathers should post a sign for nude or clothed activity.  Come snuggle up!

There. Does that work? It's sort of like a supportive, but not squishy love seat, using a few fort frames, and whatever he can find around to build it.

I'm a little touch-averse today, so I just curl up in my giant fluffy comforter that I brought with me. That gives me the ability to be with other people, but also in my own space until I'm ready to cuddle. I snuggle down for a nap, vaguely wondering what sort of ingredients the kitchen has for cooking later. I LOVE cooking for lots of people.

Oh! I forgot! I also brought color-coded stickers for folks who don't feel comfortable speaking about their preferences. They come in black and white backgrounds (for ease of visibility) and say:
Please cuddle me!
Please ask for cuddles.
Please don't touch me right now.

Pretty much whatever you need, and it is a community kitchen with lots of equipment. Check the links after your nap, as there are pictures.

Oh! Those stickers are a brilliant idea! *Snags a "Please ask for cuddles" sticker to stick onto his shirt, as Spring snags a "Please cuddle me." one to stick directly to his fur.

*Leaves a little pile of cookies next to your nest.* *Is usually quite a bit touch-averse himself, but is going out on a limb and trying something new for once, and is happy to share the cookies he brought with anyone who wants. And in case there're dietary restrictions, the plates of cookies are clearly labeled with things like gluten-free, vegan-friendly, dairy-free etc. There are even ones labeled as nut-free, for those with peanut or tree nut allergies.

This looks like a great idea! Unfortunately I'm at work and don't have time to cuddle right now, but I stop in to wave at everybody and drop off a big bowl of homemade yogurt (dairy) and a couple of jars of berry preserves to eat with it.

Little Kevin wanders away from the nest at one point after signing to Roger he wants to go look around and sees Someone in a pillow pile. "Pillow cuddles!" He cuddles up with the being making grabby hands in the pile of pillows, and shows them his big star pillow.

Grabs a "please ask for cuddles" sticker, gently attaches it to my shirt, and sits down near those coloring. Finds the Steampunk Mandalas book http://store.doverpublications.com/0486803090.html and carefully removes a page.

Starts coloring carefully and watching and listening to all the people.

Well, I'll be glad to do my normal boundary-guardian work, and low-key, non-crowded touch/talk/decompression services.

I can't snuggle except with close friends, but I value the need, and consider the comfort and joy of others to be a primary goal of my own.

Carlos is wearing a weighted shawl and has Anabel, a toddler with the variegated tentacles of a carribbean reef octopus and a peter-panning shadow clinging to his back over said shawl and is holding hands with Roger, a little boy with wolf ears, and Little Kevin who has a big star pillow clenched in his free hand.

Carlos notices the bowl of colored social alert stickers and drags the two kids over. Pulling a "Please cuddle me" sticker for himself and his daughter. Roger grabs one of the "Ask me" stickers and puts it above his Weird Scout badge and the "i'm a shapeshifter" patch on his scout uniform. Then Roger asks Little Kevin which level of cuddles he wants, explaining the stickers and gives him a please cuddle me sticker when he's sure it's what the younger kid wants.

Trailing behind them is Earl who has a dutch oven containing Vegan Smoky Charred Cauliflower and Potato Soup with Kale. He settles the pot on the potluck table with a label that says "Vegan + Spicy" and the ingredients.

Carlos finds a clear spot in the cuddle room and begins putting together a fort-nest so Earl can find them as Roger brings out some of the blankets from his rucksack. (As usual one of them is a spider quilt that he puts over the entrance though this time it's got a green background for "feel free to join us")
