Watch a robot solve a Rubik's cube. I actually saw something similar not long after the cube first came out, but the robot was much clunkier. This one is elegant, faster, and demonstrates a better grasp of physics.

It had the doubled http:// error. Usually that makes the link not work at all. I have no idea why it did what it did. I have fixed the link and when I click on it, I now get a robot.

Yay! I got a robot now too!

I think it did that because when it initially wasn't working, I pasted it into Google, which looked at the broader category of 'trending on facebook' and tossed up a batch of garlic potatoes recipes for me. Which sound tasty, but are not rubik's cubes.

(Could one make a Rubik's Cube out of potato? Probably. Amusing concept.)

You'd need food coloring. Potatoes naturally come in white, yellow, pink, and blue. Needs two more colors. Though I suppose you could use sweet potato for orange.

And purple. Purple sweet potatoes exist and are delicious. Possibly not very structurally sound, though.

The pink-red ones have a range, and the blue-purple ones have a range, but within each range the colors are similar. They also tend to fade if you cook them more than briefly. All potatoes soften when cooked, but the texture varies -- some are waxy, some fluffy, etc.

Hm. I think that uncooked potato would be structurally better for carving, closer to a woody or waxy medium. But then there are all the other vegetables, of varying firmness, fibrous-ness, etc...

... Someone has done something like this somewhere, sometime, somehow. And now I WILL be Googling it. *facepalm*

Apparently other people do not feel compelled to produce the proper 6 colors. With fruit it would be easy. With only potatoes, more difficult. If one is mixing and matching, however, green cubes could be easily cut from broccoli or another green vegetable.
