Constructed Languages in Hollywood

Here's how it works onscreen.

I'm so much happier doing this for myself and my friends.  And yes, I have built entire languages, not just five-page models.  If you think of model languages like model ships, 95% of people who do it at all are building six-inch ships in a bottle, and I'm the guy with six-foot windjammers crammed into his den.

I know a lady who would have a geekgasm if you *actually* had a six-foot windjammer in your den and she got to see it in person... she was once crew on the modern-day Lady Washington...

(Frankly, if I was to custom-commission such a thing, it would probably be more like three feet, and I think it would have to be the Lady, complete with D-sails. ;)

I think I filked that.

And I wasn't making that example out of whole cloth. While I don't build model ships, I have seen the giant ones. Someone I knew in high school invited everyone over for a birthday party. I was more fascinated by his father's collection of massive model ships. Can you imagine anything more uncool than your classmate squilling over your dad's dumb collection that clogs a whole room of the house? But I've never forgotten that scene. It was breathtaking.

Congratulations! (Maybe if I'd taken speculative fiction more seriously...I've done an incomplete dictionary and grammar for one of the languages in my alternative world, only random bits for the others.)
