Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently?

I've written before about my fear of the dentist. I thought I was doing better. I like and trust my dentist, but last week was harder than I was expecting. I had the first half of my dental implant surgery. I know it could be worse. I'm fortunate in only having to replace one tooth, but I have to return today so he can see if he can take out my stitches. I'm dreading it. I'm still sore from last week. The other times I've had to have stitches taken out for other things were pretty miserable experiences. I just want to hide under something.

Dealing with Aberdeen Council. It is the one task that I need a month's supply of energy to do and it usually takes around thirty minutes depending on what I need to speak to them about.

Supervision at work. It didn't go down too well with my co-ordinator that I wrote change jobs to answer a question about where I see myself within a year. I like my job but I'm wanting to do something else within social care, likely mental health.

I always think that's a completely unfair question. If they don't want a truthful answer then they shouldn't ask it. I never did get what the point of it is.

Good luck. :-)

It is an unfair question. My current employer has known for a while that I'm wanting to leave and do something else.

Thanks.

Exactly and it was a little frustrating because the person who did my supervision wrote references for me a couple of months ago.

7 hours in the hot sun, sawing and cutting timber to shape in order to build a bed frame...
and I'm not even done yet. [assembly next!]

Yeah, it's about 80% done... then I get to put it all together, see if it all fits, then take it apart, stain and polish the wood and then cart it indoors and reassemble it.

Ikea can still take a hike though.

It sounds like an exciting project, though. It's wonderful that you can build things yourself.

It is kinda fun, and I do like working with wood, although I'm no expert and I'm sure I'd get a D at best from my old woodwork teacher. [but it's a fairly simple design and it's meant to look home-made anyway.] But, it's something that's just not sold around here [Tibetan style bed] and it works out a lot cheaper to make stuff than buy it... plus I'm going to be owed a ton of cookies for building it for her! [I'm cheap labour, I work for cookies!]

With many projects, being able to do it adequately matters more than being able to do it well. And yay cookies!

Completely failed to find a remote shooting location that I went out to scout today and returned home discouraged and frustrated. But I will go out again with better mapping! And soon!

Aww ...

That sucks. :(

Go you!

*ponder* Maybe you could make friends with people who do geocaching or orienteering? Or film folks who also need to find locations to shoot stuff?

Reading my diary again, I see! :) I happen to be friends with *multiple* geocaching/orienteering folks and am going to grill them for notes. Ditto on the film folks. One of my friends, in fact, already gave me a location where they shot a music video that fits my parameters.

So!

I will try another day!

And honestly, considering how well the plates have been coming together to get shot? It was kinda time to have one of the excursions crap out.

My work contract ends tomorrow and my boyfriend still has problems with his mouth. At least I'll be able to take him to the dentist and get his chalky chompers looked at when his mouth stops flaring...
