Monday Update 10-26-15
Oct. 26th, 2015 03:36 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Today's Yardening
Transitioning a Doll
All Things Dapper
Uncommon Fruits
The Asexual Spectrum
There are also many new entries in the Berettaflies thread of Polychrome Heroics, currently listed in this post. So far writers include me, DW user Dialecticdreamer,
rix_scaedu, DW user shiori_makiba,
siliconshaman,
lone_cat, DW user Redsixwing, DW user librarygeek, and DW user Helgatwb. Entries include a lot of demifiction, especially letters to the editor, along with a few stories and poems. This is turning into an exciting look at how a city copes with the aftermath of a soup incident -- you just never see this stuff in the mainstream. I have no idea why; a tornado touches down and the cleanup is in the news for weeks. The invitation is still open if anyone else wants to contribute.
Poetry in Microfunding:
"The Most Powerful, Master Emotion" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. It details the cleanup of environmental disasters after World War II. "The Power to Curse" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. It follows Mr. Pernicious as he flees from the demolished lab with the Spectrum in hot pursuit.
Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Unicorns on Parade" "Spruce Deer" "Wandering the Heights" (poetry). Back to me for edits: "Winterheart" (parts 2-3), "Stinging Like Nettles" "Off the Clock" (poetry). Currently in front of the canon board: "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction). Drafted: "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" (poetry), "Southern Breads" "Tangleweed Article" (articles), Jularei (character sheet). In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," "Finding the Holes," "Broken Hopes," "Brewing Beauty," "Little Paws in the Licenses" (fiction), "The Smallest Invaders," "Raising the Future" "Beach Pies" "Unsolid Ground" "Riding from the Rescue" "To Ride Death" (poetry), "Rammer" (nonfiction). Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).
Lovely fall weather here, with just a sprinkle of rain. We met with my parents and Dad gave me a HUGE box of bulbs, about a hundred overall I would guess. About half were little bags of individual varieties, some of them small specialty bulbs I've never grown before, some grape hyacinths and stuff like that. Plus about fifty mixed tulips for landscaping. \o/ I have about half the small packets planted. Torenia, portulaca, ice flowers, and frost asters are blooming.

Date: 2015-10-31 01:02 am (UTC)I love them too. Sometimes I pick my own, but in recent years my Dad has been buying vast amounts and often gives me some. These mostly had specific labels this year, but the big bag of tulips is an assortment.
>> We aren't sure what the weather is going to do here in our part of CA, so we got a few tulips and such. I never label them - part of the fun is waiting to see which colors pop up where! <<
If you like surprises, then I highly recommend landscaping bulbs. These are sold in assortments, some truly beautiful mixes. Depending on what and where you buy, they may be slightly smaller bulbs sorted out at the farm, or they may be full-sized "leftovers" bundled by the seller, but in either case they're a LOT cheaper than specifics. I've gotten daffodils this way that last few years, and this time Dad got the tulip bag again. It probably started with 2-300. I think I poured off about 50 for myself. I have just one little bag of Dutch iris left to plant, then I'll get into the mixed tulips. :D Finished out the snow crocus and some little jonquils today.
