Monday Yardening

Today I cleaned off the asparagus patch and put fresh wood chips on top.

Honeysuckles and lilacs are leafing out.  Forsythias and some other shrubs are budding.  The Cornelian cherry dogwood is covered in tiny yellow flowers.  Grape hyacinths and white starflowers have their leaves well up.

I think I've mentioned here before that Cornelian cherry is the etymological root of the stone carnelian, because people thought the darker and more opaque nuggets resembled its fruit. But it's worth mentioning again. :-)

Fascinating. My tree has never fruited, but the flowers are pretty.
