I like that /she's/ the one who is insisting that everything is fine, and that her family is trying to help despite that. It's a problem no matter whether someone is in denial about needing eyeglasses or a soup ability, and it can cause huge problems in the short term, often some long term ones, too.
Making her super-strong only makes her /temper/, the existing problem, worse, rather than replacing sweeet, placid Chriselda with a berserker... it built on what she already /had/ and what she /was/.
