Here's an article about controlling technology with the mind.  Manipulating objects, okay, that's fairly safe.  Telepathy?  I'm counting on the fact that new advances usually start at the slow and stupid end of the spectrum, because that's not something most people are equipped to handle.

This is awesome. I'm somewhere between excited and terrified by the idea of these. Like, what if you could control one of those remote plans while dreaming? Would you have as much control over what you blurt out when using the voice-muscle sensor thing? Also, could this be used to diagnose different kinds of psychiatric disorders to help determine what medicine is needed? That ability to fully monitor someone's health and even their thoughts could have really positive clinical applications, but could just as easily be abused. Technology is definitely a double-edged sword.

Thanks for sharing!

One of my fictional creatures is a partial group-mind using telepathy technology, as it were, to connect to each other. ("Partial" because they can adjust the strength of the link and don't go further than they're comfortable with.) The blurry field between being an organization and an actual creature is quite interesting.

Yeah.. because what could go wrong with that... like computer viruses that jump species.

Yes...

I imagine people won't believe my warnings about those any more than they did about emailed viruses that could open themselves.

Fortunately, they're not actually really talking about telepathy yet, just being able to subvocalize into someone's cellphone.

The fact that there doesn't seem to be any direct brain input going on is a definite plus at this stage.
