iSerenity offers free ambient sounds!
Nov. 22nd, 2008 04:15 pmI was delighted to discover iSerenity, a website that offers free ambient sounds. Popular environments include Library Lullabye, Roaring Ocean, Whimsical Windchimes, Wild Wind, Rain, Crackling Fire, and many more. Click the one you want and it plays that sound continuously. There's a volume control right on the screen.
I love this thing. I used to have a huge library of environmental sounds for writing. Unfortunately a lot of those were cassettes and got melted down. I still have some CDs though. But this site means I don't have to fool around with that; I can just activate it and leave it in a background window. When I'm writing, I often enjoy having a soundtrack that relates to what I'm writing -- so, wind for the desert, waves for a coastal story, etc. Since I can't play anything with a beat when I'm writing poetry, environmental sounds give me a way to cover up noise from elsewhere in the house.
