In Illinois, spring is coming. The crocus and snowdrops are blooming; tulips and daffodils are sprouted and some are showing buds. Honeysuckle, rose, lilac, and other bushes are budding. Forsythia blooms will open soon. The air is less cold and smells of rich wet earth. We're starting early yardwork like picking up sticks and pulling dead weeds.

We have plans to visit Champgain-Urbana, IL tomorrow for the Celtic Ways performance at Heartland Gallery. We'll also be grocery shopping for our Ostara event on Saturday. We're going to make teriyaki chicken for the potluck feast.

I've finally picked a restaurant for my birthday celebration: Pasha's, a Mediterannean restaurant in Champaign-Urbana. For new readers, my birthday is April 1; dinner is set for the weekend after that so my parents can join us. (I have an Amazon.com wishlist if anyone is shopping for me and doesn't know what to get.) Hm, I should also put some thought into a local observance, since the weekend before my birthday is Common Grounds.

"the weekend before my birthday is Common Grounds.'

Are you referring to the co-op in C-U?

No ...

... that's Common Ground without an "s." We do shop there sometimes.

Common Grounds is a coffeehouse in Mattoon, where we meet every other Sunday with like-minded folks in the area.

Hee, is it really? My fiance's birthday is just one day before yours! Of course, we all have to tease him, "You know, if you had been born just one day later..."

I will not tease you, however, for I'm sure you've heard all the jokes a million times already.

Plus, I fear the beaty stick! ;)

Yes, really...

... and your fiancee is lucky.

Thanks for your understanding.

And yes, the beaty stick awaits people who prank me or tease about my birthday. Fortunately I haven't needed to use it in a while, though, since everybody around me pretty much knows not to ruin my birthday. So it's okay.

You're welcome. I figure that teasing someone about an April 1 birthday is about on par with teasing someone who was born on a Friday the 13th...or during a Leap Year...or on April 15 in the United States (like my closest cousin).

*wanders off to plot birthday presents*

Huh?

What's wrong with April 15 in the US?

BTW Elizabeth, I will not be at Fieldhaven for Ostara, as I will be out of town for at least 3-4 days starting tomorrow.

April 15 is the date everyone's yearly tax returns are due.

So you can believe that my cousin has heard every spin on the joke about being "Daddy's Little Deduction!" ;)

Congratulations on getting through another year, whichever one it happens to be.

When I was in Danville IN a bit over a week ago, [livejournal.com profile] ladyat had crocuses flowering and daffodil greenery about 2 inches out of the ground in her yard.

You share the same birthdate as Anne McCaffrey. :)

Yes!

I discovered that back in junior high, and thought it was very cool.

It is. :) Very cool. I mean, I would be happy if I share the same birthdate with my favorite author. ;)

We took advantage of the very warm day recently to rake up leaves that had blown off roses and onto the lawn, and to turn them into the compost pile, so it once again looks like a pile instead of a pit. The compost was still partially frozen; hopefully fluffing it and adding the warmer leaves will get it started again in short order.

I envy you your crocuses; we don't even have those peeking their leaves up into the air yet, and no daffodil leaves either, though the irises are starting to send leaves up.

And now we get cold weather again for a while.
