 These characters changed gender in production.  Cool.

They missed some stuff in the Spock blurb. It wasn't just that the network honchos didn't like the idea of a woman as second-in-command, it was also that test audiences had reacted very negatively to the character. And Spock was not cold and unemotional until after the swap had been made; you can clearly see him acting like everybody else (except "Number One") in the pilot footage.
