Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and mild, a beautiful fall day.

I fed the birds.  I"ve seen a flock of house finches, a bluejay, and Nipple Squirrel.  :D  I really hope that some of the bluejays will decide to stick around for the winter.  Every fall and spring, the birds seem to shuffle the deck, and -- aside from regulars like the cardinals -- I get a random assortment of locally available species.

I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants.

EDIT 10/2/24 -- We broke up the big green branch in the ritual meadow.

EDIT 10/2/24 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 10/2/24 -- I watered the patio plants, picnic table, and septic garden.

EDIT 10/2/24 -- I watered the seedlings in the savanna, patch in the prairie garden, telephone pole garden, and grass patch.

One of the oak seedlings is starting to turn red.  :D

As it is almost suppertime, I am done for the night.

Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology
Paperback – September 19, 2023
by Shane Hawk (Editor), Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. (Editor)

Many Indigenous people believe that one should never whistle at night. This belief takes many forms: for instance, Native Hawaiians believe it summons the Hukai’po, the spirits of ancient warriors, and Native Mexicans say it calls Lechuza, a witch that can transform into an owl. But what all these legends hold in common is the certainty that whistling at night can cause evil spirits to appear—and even follow you home.

[community profile] eggbug_writes is a new community for writing prompts.  It was inspired by things that Cohost used to do, since that platform is closing.  This community already has a lot of prompts, some stories, and other activity.

Today we made a smoothie with:

1 cup caramel apple cider
1 cup Brown Cow maple yogurt
1 fresh apple
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup ice

The result is a pale pinkish-beige and thin, with a strong maple flavor.  It's not quite as brilliant as the pear version, but we haven't found any more excellent pears, so we're using apples -- a Pink Lady this time.  There is also a cashew butter one.

Today we made Baked Acorn Squash, using half brown sugar and half maple sugar.  For a nondairy / vegan version, you could use margarine, coconut, or some other botanical fat instead of the cow butter.
