Birdfeeding
May. 16th, 2024 01:59 pmToday is cloudy, mild, and wet. It's been drizzling off and on this morning.
Last night had a huge emergence of cicadas, who started crawling out of the ground at dusk. I'm used this happening in the wee hours, based on seeing stragglers in the morning, but these guys started early. So I took tons of pictures of them shedding their skins. :D I love the fact that I can spend a night running in and out of the house to take pictures of bugs if I want to. Yes, I'm weird. I had so much fun.
This morning I took a few more pictures of the matured cicadas crawling around.
I haven't fed the birds yet. I've seen a few house finches.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I fed the birds. I've seen more house finches and a wren, probably a house wren.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I planted a Superbena Sparkling Rosé Verbena and 4 white lobelia in a square pot.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I planted a 'Deutschland' white astilbe in the forest garden. This smells intensely of vanilla.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I planted the second 'Deutschland' white astilbe in the forest garden.
I can see rain off to the west, so no idea if it'll reach here or not.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I planted a spearmint, an apple mint, and a peppermint in a trough on the picnic table.
EDIT 5/16/24 -- I watered the newly planted things.
My partner re-mowed the previous part of the house yard, so that's all in good shape.
My order from Edible Landscaping arrived.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
